The new Cayman S is so much more of a beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated car than the crude C63.
But the C63 is likely faster.

I know what your on about, i test drove a 2014 Cayman S 6 Speed, with out sport chrono. it did feel as fast as the M3, but the overall feel of the car is just crazy. the inside and out is done right. White/Black loaded. but now i have second thought, because the E92 is always going to be special. A cayman however will not, because the new one will be the same if not better, but the M3 will no longer have a 4.0 V8. Which in my opinion is a MUST! the sound is nuts.

I have both
2012 Cayman R
2013 C63 coupe with PP The Porsche feels faster and more nimble, more involved and more exciting. The C63 is big and brash and feels like a frieght train on steroids. Completely different feel. Yes, in a straight line the C63 would probably win but I hope that is not why anyone on this forum would choose one car over another. |

Cayman is a great car, but the idea that its as quick as a 991 is ridiculous. Porsche *doesnt allow that to happen*. Again... I'm a huge Porsche fan and have owned 2 911s (just sold my latest one actually) and *love* the Cayman. But let's not get crazy with the straight line time. The E92M3 is quicker than the Cayman S in a straight line. The C63 is quicker than the M3 in a straight line. They're all within tenths so you can find a good or bad day for one or the other where things flip, but you have to go with the overwhelming majority of the professional test data. |

If you'd buy an M3 with a stick, why the heck not buy a Cayman with a stick... the latter has a way better shifter (at least the old one did).

My thoughts on the Cayman S
Cayman S is pure driving pleasure at the track. I drove both Cayman and Cayman S very hard. Here is what I think about the Cayman S:
1. Very well balanced car 2. Unbelievable PDK shifter 3. Sport plus, stiffens the car suspension and the engine mounts, which makes a huge difference at the track 4. Not as fast as the M3 or the C63 in a straight line 5. Not even close to the 911 (the front car was a 911, pulled on us like we were standing still) 6. Only room for two people (not very practical for me) Last edited by bimmerj; 05-06-2013 at 10:14 AM.. |

I love the C63 (my dad just bought a 2013 CLS63 and that's the greatest car I've ever driven). The torque in AMG's is amazing and is a monster in accelerations. His CLS63 handles extremely well actually, and only loses traction if you're gunning it at full throttle out of a corner. I bet it's a monster on the track, and it has beaten the F10 M5 on numerous tracks and I'm sure the C63 is similar.
With that said, I would NOT choose a C63 over the new Cayman simply because of how awesome the new Caymans are. I like smaller feeling cars (the C63 is fairly small but is still heavier than the Porsche) that have handling like they're on rails. The C63 is definitely more practical as a DD and can handle three more people than the Porsche if that's important to you. I think the AMG does 0-60 in four seconds flat whereas the Cayman does it in 4.5, but unless it's the Turbo, Porsche doesn't care too much about 0-60 whereas AMG does. You can't go wrong with either one so it's a matter of preference. Have you test driven any of these cars yet? |
