Is anyone going to make an aftermarket turbo for the N55?
Been thinking about this for a while...is it possible to remove the twin scroll and somehow fit 2 aftermarket turbos and/or 1 big one?
Seems like the the only 2 things holding back the N55 are: 1 - single turbo, and 2 - cast engine internals...(that supposedly cant hold up with a lot of power 400+ hp)... Anyone? |

I wouldn't say single turbo is a bad thing, with the right single turbo, big numbers can be made. I would say the internals are the biggest hold back. Can't build a house with a weak foundation.

yea, agreed, 1 turbo isn't terrible, and a big unit is certainly capable of making a lot of HP and torque but its the lag with big turbos that sucks. if you had 2 medium sized turbos (bigger than stock n54 turbos) then you could reduce lag and really put down good numbers.
in regards to the internals, I dont know a lot about this stuff, but can these things be replaced? probably a lotttt of $$$....the stock bmw wheels are cast and i have seen mine literally melt on potholes and curbs |

I get the sense there isnt enough momentum right now to make the initial investment worthwhile. Rob B pulled down the n55 and long story short, didnt like what he saw in terms of upgrade options. Im sure itll happen down the road, but i wouldnt hold your breath in the mean time.

That is the one thing that kinda pisses me off about the Vishnu single turbo kit you are limited to the turbos that you can mount to the system, so that you will buy the turbos as a kit from them.

I really want Switzer Performance to finalize their BMW stuff...doubt they will do a 135i though...they specialize in Porsche, GTR's, and just released Merc stuff. Had said they were working in BMW stuff but hasn't been released yet. Check it out http://switzerperformanceinnovation.com/web_en/
They have a GTR putting down 1500 HP at the wheels...Jesus

There's info out there that he's ordered the parts to upgrade the N55's twin scroll. Hasn't released any details but he seems optimistic that he can improve the stock unit. Vargas has also stated they turned their sights to the N55. Haven't heard much from them in a while. |

Vargas and BMS have worked out an upgraded turbo that is putting 468 WHP down.
www.vargasturbo.com You can read the entire thread here: http://www.***********.com/showthrea...eel-horsepower I am considering ordering one. I imagine that once they get the boost up a little more that 500 WHP is easily achieved. they are getting 120hp over a tuned engine. Looks to be worth the 4k for the turbo |

There are two Vargas N55 turbos in Perth. PTF isn't sure if their kit is RHD compatible, so your options right now are Vargas and Pure turbos. |

PTF, Pure (Compressor wheel), RB, VTT and Dinan (Compressor wheel) are all in development. I think only VTT (Vargas) is currently for sale.
I think also if you're going to start aiming for 450whp+ you must ensure there are supporting mods. 1. Fuel pump upgrade 2. Spec stage 2+ clutch 3. Additional cooling (either through upgraded oil/radiators or E85/Meth) 4. Traction stuff (guide rods, bushings, limited slips) Have fun

i'm in Brisbane. I have the supporting mods now... DPs, LSD, intercooler and oil cooler, intake and JB4. Thinking about adding Meth soon. I will need to upgrade my fuel pump.
