oil filler cap

may seem like a silly question....but....I just purchased an aluminum oil filler cap from Bimmian and am having a hard time removing the stock filler cap. It is 'hinged' onto a ring which is attached to the oil fill hole. I don't want to break off the ring, if possible. Has anyone removed the stock cap and replaced it with an aftermarket one? Thanks for the info...

I don't know the answer to your question but does changing the oil filler cap really makes a difference?

A 'difference'>>no<<purely aesthetics. I do what I can to improve some of the visual properties of the vehicles I own. While it's not a show car, I am getting active in the Suncoast chapter of BMWCCCA where we show and autocross our vehicles. Little things like the billet chromed aluminum add a nice touch. Thanks for askin', though.

Thanks for answering the questions. Please take a picture and show us how it looks. I don't think it has been mentioned in this forum since I have been a member..

I heard that it can add an extra 5kw AND extend the life of the long life oil further. Nice find.

No offense intended shark.

Nothing wrong with customizing. It's not like this distasteful. Why don't you call Bimmian and ask them? Others have probably asked them the same question.

Got the oil cap installed today. The stock cap needs to literally snap off of the filler tube. Once the cap is disengaged, the remaining 'ring' is attached beneath the rim of the filler tube. A small flat head screw driver can carefully be pried beneath the plastic ring and it will snap off. WOW, I did gain a whole 5 rwhp....! Just being a smart a$$!! I'll post some pics if someone would like me to.
