Agree, stage 2 STI is like the Mustang GT- it can make the numbers but not as complete of a package as an M3.

Buy the subaru over the M3 although "you can afford the M3' its faster? where did you get than from the subaru dealership? or the kids that drive them . in car and driver the sti beat the wrx on the track only about 10 seconds or more behind the M3.

Subaru over an M3? Haha.

...And I bet you'd take Rosie O' Donnell over Brooklyn Decker too?

Check into a rehab soon.

The STI may be faster when it is HEAVILY modded... but even then I suspect the M3 will run it down at high speed. Anyway, I think this topic has been thoroughly beat to death on other threads. You've got a better chance in a Mustang GT 5.0 than an STI btw...

Having owned an 05sti(4 years) and an 08sti (2 1/2) I can tell you with full confidence that the STI is a great package for tuners but NOT faster than an e9x m3. Hell a more real comparison would be a 335i(s) even then the 335i will destroy it.

The STIs and a lot of other AWD turbo cars are great to get to 70-80, but after that it's a face plant. Not to mention the STI engines when pushed will fail, lots of problems with turbo creep.

Coming from the subaru world I can tell you that you'll get a few glory runs followed by weeks and months of dyno time, adjusting front mount intercoolers, finding the right turbo, tuner, etc. It's just not worth it. AP is a great OTS package, but it's just walking you into injectors and a pro-tune which will walk you into a different turbo maybe meth in, then moving your top-mount intercooler to front mount..then all of a sudden you realized you just spent 12k on top of a 35k car and realibilty is out the door.

When I testdrove the STi the salesman said if I bought it then I could go "porsche hunting" with it. So, why bother racing M3's?

I love Subaru's..... My daily driver is a 08 Legacy Sedan......But really like WRX as well as STI's

I had a unwanted run the other day on a up hilll 180 degree freeway on ramp with a STI. I did not know I was being messed with until I saw his headlights 3 inches from my rear bumper......

I revved all the way until 8K in 2nd gear which he kept up pretty well (I was impressed actually) but once the revs were getting up there on 3rd gear I was pulling away from him.... by the time my speed warning came up we were on the freeway I was at least couple of car lengths ahead of him.... we merged and gave each other thumbs up....

Jeans and a sweatshirt are more comfortable and more durable than a nice suit but you still don't see, bankers, doctors, lawyers wearing them to work. Ask yourself why, find the answer and you will have the answer to the WRX/M3 question.

And in stock form, it is not faster.

If it was a wrx and not an sti you should be embarassed. if it was an sti, not really surprised, maybe even mighta been modded a little.

Wrong on so many levels. I think there should be a minimum IQ requirement to join this forum.

I had an 04 STi for 4 years and loved it. It was fun to just grab by the scruff of its neck and throw into turns with the throttle mashed. And when I lived in Boston, it was great in the snow.

But it was one of my least favorite cars I've owned for day to day driving. The interior materials felt cheap, and the ride provided by the suspension just never felt "right" to me.

I replaced the Sti with a 335, and they were very comparable performance wise, but drove very differently. The 335 seemed to respond better to more subtle inputs, and didn't seem as much fun to toss around. While the STi was fun at autoxes and road courses, the 335 was more fun at the track than at an autox.

I didn't keep the 335 long, because I realized it wasn't the car for me. I missed the fun of the STI, but wanted something that I would also enjoy driving when I wasn't ragging on it. I've had my E90 M3 for 4 months now, and it has been everything I've wanted.

I'm sure the excitement about the car will wear off eventually, but for me, the M3 is a perfect compromise of a fun to drive car that is also a functional daily driver. I can't wait to get it out on track and really have fun with it.

Forget the STI. If you want a fast car get an evo and go to town on it.
Stock the sti's evo's and s4's are 16yr old, can't see over the steering wheel, chinese girl first car slow, same with the stage 1/2 bs. That stock hair dryer is the problem.

And e9x m3 will eat any of them after the 60ft

I'm pretty sure he had mods, as he was pulling away from me at 80mph, and no need for a driving course as I'm holding an R1 FIA rally license acquired overseas

If he was still pulling around 80 no doubt he was modded, no biggie, those cars respond so well to mods. My lightly modded evo falls on it's face at about 80... Will be nice to feel some top end power whenever I get an M.

I had a Stg 4 TurboXS WRX. It may bit a bit quicker from 0-60 due to AWD but that is about it. In the handling department, it is not even in the same planet as an m3.

I know lol, it looked bone stock on the outside, but once it launched I was like aww fuck, I was not expecting it to be modded since it was the '11 model, but I guess I was wrong, still had a ton of fun racing it.

I love my E90 M3 but will always have a soft spot for my 07 STI, it's just such a forgiving car and reliable as hell, even at Stage 2. Would have loved to upgrade the turbo on that thing to a GT30 or GT35. But, I wanted to get rid of the boy racer look and all of the attention (ricers and cops).

Plus, the wife is a LOT happier with the M3. Muuuuuch better ride than the STI, she absolutely hated all of the bumps.
