I say go for it. I love the Focus RS. It's a great looking, driving, feeling, etc. car. It'll be FAR better on gas, but with no less thrills.
As an M fan, you can always go back. There'll be plenty of Ms out there to buy when you're ready to get back into the game. The Focus RS is a great little hot hatch that'll serve you well.

the only Focus that you should swop for is the Rs focus cosworth(if Ford ever get of their ass and make it in 4wd form )
my choice would be merc amg C63 ...just for the engine alone , or how about a late 997 c4s, ahhhhh so many choice out there (need to hit the lottery numbers game !! ) |

You'll regret it I went from a 2007 M3 to a white
Lux pack 2 RS with leather even had the mountune kit fitted to get it to go better lets say I'm back in 2011 E92 M3 after having a 335D for a while in between The Focus will return 25mpg and will have less depreciation but what it gains here you will lose out on so much else where Try and get a Focus to drive for a few days and compare the two yourself |

15k in 2 years excluding consumables. If I had stayed in my 997.1 S I would have probably lost 6k in equivalent period excluding all items (like warranty). I bring in the 911 because one thing I missed was exclusivity of the car, M3 was pretty much perfect for me and did everything I wanted but it just blended in too much. Despite the fact I found it utterly gorgeous in black an very "mean" it simply goes totally unnoticed. Focus RS will be even less exclusive, feel a fair bit cheaper inside, telematics outdated compared to the M3. It will look aggressive but many might just think its a pumped up chav Essex roundabout racer ;-) I know you don't buy car for others but for yourself.. But still. Plus it's a fwd!! When are you goin to be able to power out of corners??? As for petrol you should calculate the real difference in everyday driving with your mileage. Is the cost that different or we talking about 500/year? Good luck with your hunt. |

Only GBP10k in two years is good at this price point....you may find it's lost a fair bit more than that so I agree with your decision to keep it. Plus, it's a faster, nicer car than the RS. Are you considering the F80/2 twin turbo I6 due in 12-18 months?

from personal experience and also watching others these type of down sizing deals rarely work out to save you money and in most cases end up costing you more as you will always eventually end up returning to where you started. Stick with the M3 mate... just cut back on some of the other things you dont really need in the mean time!
