Body vinyl wrap
Im thinking about getting a body wrap. Couple of questions, will the wrap protect paint from keyed vandalism, door dings etc. What is a good price to do an M3 and does anyone have a good vendor in Las Vegas to do this?
Thanks... |

It will protect against anything that will scratch the paint (i.e. keying) but won't do much against door dings/dents besides obviously protecting the paint. Not sure if they can fix the dings without messing up the clear bra - might be worth looking into.

for full body wrap the minimum u are looking at is 3500$...and thats shoddy work...most likely will be a 5-6k job...it aint cheap and price in this industry does indeed dictate quality

I live in Las Vegas and was going to get this done when I had my 2008 M3. I could not find a place that I felt comfortable with. I went to Gecko wraps and several others. They all were more focused on wrapping advertisements then detailed full wraps. There are a couple in CA that have been highly recommended by others on this site. Just do a search for wraps. The cost varied from 3500-5000. Below are a couple of links from this site. Good luck and do your homework. If you have more questions about the companies around Las Vegas send me a pm.

are you trying to change the color of your car or are you trying to place a clear plastic shield on your car? both will "protect" the paint underneath but one changes the appearance and one doesn't. when most people say they are "wrapping" their car, they mean putting a vinyl color wrap that changes the appearance. a protective clear film is usually a "clear bra."

Also search for Satin Guard here. It's in between, a translucent wrap that lets your color through, but with "satiny" effect. Very intriguing photos in some threads.
(No, I'm not affiliated. Haven't gotten it done, either. Just intrigued.) |

Price difference isnt going to be much if done properly. Paint protection film is designed to protect the paitn from damage and is perfectly clear. There are a few films out there that will give your car a satin/matte finish which can look pretty good. Vinyl is designed for looks... i.e. vehicle wraps for business advertising. It is thinner than PPF and is not designed for protection. However it will protect the paint from small stuff.

As some have already mentioned, here's some more crucial information in determining which is for you:
Vinyl is 1.5-2.5 mils thick - offers very little in terms of paint protection Clear Bra materials - 8 mils thick. Has a clearcoat or topcoat that assists with staining and oil seepage. Vinyl does not. This is why vinyls do not last very long. Oils, rubber, and contaminants tend to permanently stain the film easily. vinyl will be much less for a full vehicle depending on the company you go with. Expect vinyl to cost anywhere from 2k-3500. Clear bra can easily be 50% - 100% more than that for a full vehicle. |
