I'm debating on jailbreaking my 4S. Is it possible yet? And does it void the warranty? I wanna take advantage of the tethering apps available.

This backs up what I said earlier.

Unlocked iPhone 4S units already seen in at least some Apple stores

Despite the fact that Apple has publicly stated that SIM-unlocked versions of the new iPhone 4S will not appear until November, it seems that you can already get an unlocked iPhone, if you buy an off-plan version (sans service contract). Of course, you'll play tons for that version ($649, $749, and $849 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB vs. $199 through $399 for the same versions on-contract).

Some are saying the unlocked iPhone 4S versions are only being sold at "select" Apple stores in the U.S. We can confirm that at least one store in the San Francisco Bay Area is selling unlocked versions, as we purchased one without a contract for work (we have plenty of AT&T plans, and it's cheaper for us in the long run), and after plugging it in and activating it, we received the above message.

Our guess, since that store wasn't the flagship Palo Alto Apple store, is that multiple, if not all, of the San Francisco Bay Area stores are selling those models.

In my opinion, the iphone is the best thing since sliced bread. I am sure the products that run the droid os are good too. Why is everyone wasting their time debating which phone/os is better. Who cares? I am glad we have two quality products in the market place, otherwise we would be paying double for our smart phones.

Picked up the 4S on Friday for 200.00 and Best Buy threw in free headphones to everyone late pro-ordered.

Sold my 5 on EBay for 335.00

Sounds like a good deal to me.

The battery sucks, but speed, camera and Siri make up for it.

battery sucks?? It will get better over time if it doesn't try letting the phone completely die and plug it in until its 100%.

I usually come home from work with either 5%-15% with the iPhone 4. Now with the 4s i come home with 30-60% now the first 1-2 days it wasn't great but its getting much much better.

I noticed this too. Only after several minutes of playing on the phone would result in significant battery drainage.

Try disabling some of the location services and push notifications, this seemed to improve the battery a little bit. Hopefully Apple addresses this when they release an update though.

yeah, 12-14 hours leaves me with 30%-40%

this was with 3 email acc's set to push and all location services off except fb (which I log out). I will be switching to 2 of the 3 set to fetch every 15 minutes...hope this helps..it it does not I will just let the battery drain fully one time, then charge completely after....

honestly this is my only gripe...

Wow wtf?

I go down 50% in a matter of 2-3 hours.....

I have to plug my iPhone in (all iPhones I've ever had) whenever I can

If it wasn't for the USB charging in my car, I'd never have a phone

I have 15 emails accounts all set to Push.
Use Googlemaps constantly
On the phone while using googlemaps and texting/emailing etc
Send about 500 texts a day, usually more....

It seems, for me at least, the battery life is about the same on the 4S as the 4, but my 4S charges slower X.x..

i haven't let it go down to 0 and back to 100 yet though

I'm gonna have an issue with this battery. I took the phone off the charger at 10:30 this morning. Had a couple emails come through, a few texts and maybe 20 tweets (incoming and outgoing). I listened to music for about an hour and browsed facebook a bit. I'm down to 56% now.

I always carried a spare battery for my blackberry because I would always go through the first one. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury with the iPhone.

My battery is better than my 4, between being on the phone talking for 5-7 hours a day plus texts, tweets, and 3 email accounts and I can still have 5-15% remaining after my day and not having it charged for 12-14 hours.

that's odd. i crack out on text and email all day and never get below 50%. days that i make a lot of calls, i might get down to 30%, but never lower than that.

Well, there is poor reception at school so that might drain it a bit. Do you have a 4 or a 4S? The processor might have something to do with it also. I leave wifi on because at home and at school the 3G isn't very strong. I just got out. Of class and I'm at 40% now.

In other news, I'm effin obsessed with instagram. I love that app.

That is pretty impressive. The camera + Siri is tempting me even more to upgrade my old ass 3g iPhone. Well, its between that and the Galaxy S2....decisions decisions.
