About to Buy New Tires - Quick Confirmation Needed

Hey guys,

So I just had a service done on my '08 M3 and they noted that my tires are pretty bald - the wear bars on all four tires were even or showing. I took a look myself and agreed, the tires were pretty worn down.

So I've been searching the forums and it seems the consensus is that the Mich Pilot Super Sports are the way to go. I've got a quote for 4 tires, 255/35/19 fronts and 275/35/19 rears. Price is $301 for each front, and $372 for each back. I checked out tire rack and the price they have is cheaper by about $10 each tire - $291 fronts, and $362 rears. After taking into account shipping charges for tire rack, the prices seem pretty comparable (I guess the local shop will add tax on top of that).

I also requested road force balancing - they are quoting $30 per tire for mounting, balancing, etc, so all in $150 (incl taxes) for all four tires. Is that a reasonable price for mounting?

All in, my quote for the new tires, mounting, plus taxes is ~$1600. Wow...tires are expensive. Does this seem reasonable (for California)?

I also called another shop that does road force balancing, and while they didn't have the Mich PSS tires in stock, they did have hangook V12s, which he highly recommended and would cost about $300 less...I've only used Mich on my cars, any thoughts on Hangook V12s would be great.

Just installed Pilot Super Sports 265/35/18 285/35/18 on my new Apex Arc-8s a few weeks ago. Great tire all around.

When I was doing some research on them I also saw how the tread life is very very good for that class of tire. They set a record at a race recently for lasting the longest while still only being a few positions off the top time.

Anyway great tire, very advanced compared to the rest of the field. Great price too.

As far as what you are paying, you are spot on. Not cheap unfortunately but they are worth it compared to the other options.

My e90 is pretty low in the rear and on a stock wheel I run a 275/35 and it looks/fits perfect.. No rubbing, even w/ 2 people in back.

Thanks tibra - sorry if this is a stupid question, but what exactly do you mean by "turn ins"? Is that when you turn the car to the left or right 100%?

When you turn the steering wheel full lock left to right (u turns, tight turns etc)..the tire can rub on the inner fender liner..some live with it..just wanted to let you know that it is possible

Is there anyway to adjust for this should it happen? Or do you just need to get different size tires?

You have some options..alignment settings (camber)..spacers..or just dont turn lock to lock

Since you ordered them already give em a try and see how it goes..I personally just did 245/265 b/c I didnt want any headaches. ZCP suspension sits lower than yours so you may be ok

Supposedly the PSS's are designed based on these record setting tires used in the race for much better tire wear.
