Little Squeek Noise When Shifting Hard.
So I noticed recently that i have a little squeak when up shifting under load. Seems to be anytime, M, no M. Haven't tried all the shift settings.
What do you think this could be? Its just as soon as the next gear engages. Its like a. Little "eeeeh". To me it sounds like either the rear suspension, or maybe something with the exhaust mounts. But I have no Clue. I was going to get under there with some WD40 and spray a bunch of shit to see if it goes away, but I have not since I know that stuff can actually be bad for certain parts on a car... Ive tried to pick it up on my go pro, but no luck so far. D |

That is interesting. As I have had my car in the shop in the past with what I thought was a broken engine mount. A harsh vibration in WOT first gear. First they said they found Hydraulic fluid and one of the mounts was busted for sure, then they said, everything was fine and no broken mount...
Maybe I need to mount the goPro up front and see what I get... Cause I still have the harsh vibration... D |

Well cars in today. We'll see what they find. And of course it was wet out this morning so when I took the tech for a drive, I coulden't get the tires to stick and no the noise was barley there.

So Picked up the car and the dealer said this, " The techs heard the noise but then after the oil change they went to take out the shop foreman and the noise was gone. Sorry we cant fix something that is not there." I drove out of the parking lot and heard the noise right away...
Ok, listen to in between shifts from first to second gear... I did a front video a rear door/wheelwell video and a rear bumper video. The noise is definitely most prominent at the front of the car. How can the dealer say they cant hear this??? |

I have the same sound... I have concluded it is the belt slipping on the pullies due to the DCT trans shifting faster than the engine can down rev for the next gear.
The noise was barely audible with stock pullies/belts but has been a bit louder after MS underdrive pullies/belts. The small amount of slipping is ok, but if it slips more than what we normally hear then it may cause premature belt failure, I suppose. My Cobra would slip the blower belt a little on every shift due to the same problem... If it started to slip badly on acceleration and I didn't notice it would just blow the damn belt up.

Just a thought...
Would it make sense to mark the belt and the pulley with a pen and confirm that under idle the marks continue to line up and then try a 1-2 shift and recheck where they line up? I assume that would be evidence of slippage. Again just a thought. |

Belt noise?
Thanks for posting the video. It's the same noise I get. It is easily reproduced under load in my car. The sound is a very quick squeak. Did you ever resolve this? Is it the belt slipping for sure?
I have a Dinan underdrive pulley installed in my E93 DCT. I heard it on the first day but it was hard to reproduce for the installation technician. It has been like that now for over a year and few months. The car still runs great. It's been on the track many times without issue. It almost sounds like a blow-off valve on a turbo car. I have gotten used to it but I would like it gone if that is possible. Please let me know if you ever found root cause and a cure. |

I'm the newest member to join the squeaking DCT crowd here. Any updates, diagnosis tips, or potential resolution? Thanks.

I have no idea what I'm talking about but could it be transmission fluid under high pressure squirting through galleys?

I have this same issue. My concern was that it could be the clutches slipping. It doesn't sound like that's the case though.
Definitive, did you mark your belt and pully and determine that was not the cause? |

I have not done anything with it for a while now. Just had the car at the dealer a few days ago. They say they do not hear anything out of the ordinary. What is interesting, is that after the service, im at 30k, it is almost completly gone, but will come back after a while.
Are you guys lowered? My SA thinks its something with my suspension, but if you guys are not lowered, then it is obviously not. D |

I guess you could try wetting the water pump/alternator/ac pump drive belts and see if that resolves it for a few mins.
A bit low tech but if it works at least you know where to start looking. Edit: Last edited by SenorFunkyPants; 11-27-2013 at 10:33 AM.. |

Soo what's the verdict? Normal? They all do it?
I may take mine to the dealer soon for the sound. I just wanted to have a good idea of what it is before I go. |
