i say keep the wood for the m5, a luxury sedan. i don't care what bmw says, i don't think (in my mind) that the m3 is a luxury anything. wood belongs in luxury, not in a race car . IMO, wood looks out of place in bmw interiors, which are very sterile looking and mechanical. also, don't think that you are getting some high class wood....just because you dump 60k+ on a car doesn't mean you have to have the trim that costs 50 bucks more than the other to produce. just my .2 cents

You say keep the wood in the M5 interior..and I assume you would also include the standard 5 and 3 series cars? But at the same time you say wood looks out of place in BMW (all?) interiors. Not sure I understand you position.

my personal feeling is that it doesn't belong, but i know that some people like it. i think you made the same point that wood kinda goes along with luxury interiors, that is why i said it would be more suitable in a car like the M5. i know BMW is not going to get rid of wood interiors (i'm not saying that they should), i'm just saying that my opinion is that it doesn't fit right with the M3.

Not sure, but I've thought about this, too. I think that the reason why people don't think wood has a place in the M3 is that they consider the M3 an instrument of speed/precision and as such, it should have more of a "business/racecar" feel, rather than a "luxery" feel. Personally, I get enough "speed ergonomics" (i.e. bland, black panels/leather) at work: during my "me" time in my vehicle I prefer lighter, luxerious colors/feel. Which is why I'm going with SA and bamboo beige..... I just wish they'd match the carpets to the leather, instead of grey all around.... but hey, it's your 60k, and that's the beauty of ordering for yourself, you can get whatever your heart desires (even SSII and beige )!!!

I agree with some of you that Piano Black would look stunning. I just found this photo from an Individual M5.

Jeez! The M3 doesn't come with aluminum pedals? What a ripoff. My MB C230k had aluminum pedals... how cheap.

Wood looks silly in a car like this that already has aluminum accents here and there that are standard (guage bezels, foot rest, etc), IMO. I'm glad it is offered for those who don't share my opinion though.
