My question is if the car comes with headers from the factory, how much a performance increase do you think aftermarket headers will give you? It's not be as much of an increase as going from a manifold system to headers like you did in the E46.

Note: This is based on my rather unscientific observation from looking at one of these off the vehicle, at the Dinan facility in Morgan Hill, while I was being given a tour of the place. Steve Dinan said they *might* come out with a header for the car, but that they weren't completely sure they were going to do it. |

Aftermarket headers

"Innovative exhaust system Through its design and configuration, the exhaust system for the new V8 power unit optimises the cylinder charge cycle, ensuring an optimum surge of power and torque at all times. And again, this component has been designed and built from the start for consistent lightweight qualities. The exhaust manifolds are made in an internal high-pressure remoulding process, the desired contours of the stainless-steel pipes being shaped from inside under pressure of up to 800 bar. The result is extremely thin walls measuring just 0.65-1.00 millimetres (0.0256-0.0394") in thickness, optimising flow conditions with minimum resistance, light weight, and optimum response of the catalytic converters." Why do we see up to 20hp REAR wheels on aftermarket headers for the s85? The s65 is just like an s85, just smaller.

Headers is one of the best power mods for the E60 M5. Steve Dinan already stated in the stroker kit video, the M3 V8 is basically the S85 with two cylinders cut off. RDsport has to be working on headers, as well as others. |

20 hp on the V10 M5 with headers ALONE? Highly doubtful. Show me the apples to apples dyno runs and confirm that the ONLY difference was headers.

I don't know! I live in South San Jose and work in Santa Clara, and though I've only owned my car for just under a month I too have yet to see another one on the road.

So, the M engineers got this all wrong then. They don't know how to design efficient headers, but some aftermarket guys do? Like Swamp is saying, I'll believe it when I see evidence. Sure, you can mess with the cats, but as Greg is pointing out, do you want your car to pollute 100x more for a little bit more power?

M5 RDsport headers are a +38hp gain. http://www.racingdynamics.com/Locali..._E60_Motor.htm RPI claims +28whp and +31wtq with their headers, with dynos to prove. Supersprint headers on average have seen a +30hp gain. Not sure what Evosport claims with their M5 headers. Last edited by hellrotm; 06-26-2008 at 12:25 AM.. |
