We have heard no updates from the new backing plate manufacturer. We reserved all our completed ducts for them so that they could distribute complete kits to members.
Because that has not happened, there will be a commercial thread created for just the ducts Sept 21st. I can't discuss anything more commercial then that in this post. People can post there, while this would remain a technical thread. I'm embarrassed to see that these have stalled again after passing the opportunity on to far more capable hands. |

Do you guys have any pics of the recommended flex hose routing inside the wheel well?
I'm asking because I did a DYI duct that exits in the wheel well, but did not take this farther to the backing plate because: - I am not sure how to route the hose - I don't have a clamping solution in the wheel well I could engineer the clamping solution, but only if I know how to route the duct...

Wait just a bit for HPC carbon kit. Dont know if theyll sell just the wheel well duct but your routing issue will then be solved and taken care of in style.

no links, when there's one I'll post it, no prob. I can say that the system consists of 3 CF components and basically it works by making air available (from the oem BMW undertray, through the wheel well) to be pumped through the rotor vanes for rotor and caliper cooling. Their in a testing phase now, actually it was tested yesterday at Thunderhill in NorCal. I'll post a pic if possible....pushing them hard.

The carbon composite kit I mentioned is being introduced @ bimmerfest next month. You might be able to get a kit right now, not sure, or at least put your name down to get one.

I must've skipped your post but in any case there's already a couple CF back plates on the market and I'm not interested in paying the price they command nor am I interested in CF. I'm just a weekend track junky, not fighting for the podium in Grand AM. Give me some cheap aluminum plates.

cf vs aluminum should be closely priced. I know the hpc backing plates are cost effective Quote:
It's all good though, either flavour, cooling is a Requirement!

Care to elaborate? Al is wayyyy cheaper than CF for every other application I've seen, why should Al brake ducts be as expensive as CF ones? I think there should be Al backing plates on the market for half what they are now or less. Tons of markup.

Whats the price for the least expensive AL and CF backing plates? The non recoverable engineering costs are similar between both materials. AL should be much less in cost Based on just a flat AL plate with a 3" tube welded to it. I'll post a pic of the hpc plates when I get mine installed.
