Looking for something louder than M Performance Exhaust
Hey all,
When I purchased my E92 a few months ago, I had no idea the previous owner had decided on the M Performance exhaust for the car as I bought the car without ever seeing it in-person (out of state; car was pristine and came with lots of goodies). Though it sounds nice, I feel like I want something a bit louder. Because I never had the stock exhaust on the car, I don't really have an idea of how much louder the M Performance exhaust is than the stock muffler. I've been watching a lot of different videos and reading through search result threads to get a better idea of what my exhaust options are for this car. I've lurked for some time on it. So far I really like the Borla systems, though I'm not sure if I should go with the S-Type or ATAK. I'd hate to buy the S-Type and find it quieter than the M Performance exhaust, but I'm concerned the ATAK might be a bit too loud for me. I quite like the Eisenmann Race exhaust as well, but again I have concerns about volume. For what it's worth, my previous car was an Infiniti G37 Coupe, and I found that the Tanabe Catback exhaust on the car was the perfect volume for me. It was nice and vocal, but it wasn't unbearable when cruising on the highway at low revs. Here's a video of that exhaust for reference: Thoughts? Is there a distributer that won't mind me returning the exhaust if it isn't what I was hoping it would be?

False, you just haven't driven around with it enough to damage your hearing

Today i picked up my car from the SA, and he asked to go around the block with the exhaust on. When we got back, he asked me twice! How can you drive around with this thing? My first answer was "huh?" |

Best course of action is to see if you can find somebody locally that has the exhaust that you're thinking about and listen to it in person. If you can't do that listen to as many YouTube videos and as you possibly can. If you're still stuck ask yourself would you rather have it be a little too soft or a little too loud and then pull the trigger. Worst case scenario if you don't like it you can turn around and sell it and get something else.
Good luck! |

Do you have a thread I could check out? Would you be willing to ship? Also I thought the Sedan and Coupe exhausts were different.

i also debated between s-type and atak. I ended up going with atak after sending a few emails back and forth from a guy at borla and then talking with him on the phone. basically what i said was that I'm looking for an exhaust that is louder and more aggressive than the stock exhaust, but that will not detract from the enjoyment of a highway cruise or detract from listening to music when not driving hard. i said i basically wanted something loud on the outside and respectable on the inside, linear volume control based on throttle input. he said go with the atak. he also said that the dB output between the s-type and the atak is almost identical however their exhaust note characteristics are different.
unfortunately mine is still on order and i haven't even heard it in person yet, however i hope this helps you.

Not planning on doing any other exhaust, other than perhaps the corresponding X-pipe from either brand; IIRC those use high-flow cats. Test pipes aren't really my thing. I'm happy with the power of the car for now, perhaps a supercharger in the future. But other than that, no other power mods planned.

Some xpipes do come with 1 set of cats but many do not. You will smell gas if there aren't any cats. |
