Yeah, but I'm planning to keep the last N/A V8 M car for a long time, so if I'm likely to have problems with the MPE down the line I'd rather go for a different slip-on...

Maybe, but I'm not sure I would want any other slip on, the MPE look and sound just perfect IMO, it's a though descision for sure!

Is the rest of your exhaust stock?

This is interesting - but not sure what the picture is. Will look at my 2 month old MPE for something that matches the picture.

@mermar - take look at the middle/Center of each of your muffler. there is a hole at the new one and not at the "old" one as seen in the picture above.

Will take a picture of the new one when bmw install it in a view Weeks. The order was going to munich last week.

I'm just about to press the button on the MPE with an otherwise stock set up so I just want to know if I am likely to have cracking issues...

Thanks
Yep. Stock exhaust. MPE cracked after 2 years. Not badly, but definitely there. I can hear a wisp when I shift at high revs, otherwise it really hasn't affected anything and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. It is like a 1" long split in the metal on the driver's side can. I just got my new one, which I will be installing soon.

Replacement from BMW or you just went ahead and bought another one?

I am running my stock mid-section with no modifications. I am on my third cracked MPE, and am still looking for the right solution to correctly fix the cracking issue.

Frankly, I am exploring possible legal action against BMW as this is clearly a design/manufacturing flaw, and since my warranty is now expired, BMW is telling me to go pound sand.

I highly recommend not buying the MPE unless you are willing to deal with the cracking, which is clearly inevitable.

Any other MPE owners with cracked exhaust systems want to join me in a class action suit?

Replaced under warranty, however according to my dealer, there is no "new" version of this exhaust, at least not in the U.S. They supposedly got the latest up to date version and it is identical

Sure, it is clearly a design flaw, but how many people do you need for a class action suit? What is the usual time frame for this, and do we have to bear any up front costs?

I think mine has a loose baffle - time to go back to the dealer.

am so glad I landed upon this thread!!! my E92 should be out of its original warranty sometime next year (will cross 50K miles) and was ruminating exhaust options, mainly MPE vs Akra evo set up with BPM tune. I know different price points, but putting the MPE on an otherwise stock setup was enticing for the 2yr warranty on the MPE.

However, looking here I dont want to deal with constant issues, even if they would be covered under warranty... guess I am gonna check with the Akra people regarding durability of their systems.... yes, I plan to keep my E92 for a while......love this forum.....

No cracking on mine but listen to this rattle:

http://vid438.photobucket.com/albums...Rattle%202.mp4

It goes away once the cold start cycle finishes, or even a bit before then. And it is most noticeable after the car has sat for about 2 hours. If it sits overnight, for example, the rattle is hardly noticeable. It seems that there must be a different rate of expansion/contraction in some of the internal components.

Check your tips. The inner portion may be vibrating against the outer. Look for gaps and push on your tips to isolate a vibrating tip issue. I JB welded the tiny gap I had on two of my tips which totally eliminated a rattling sound exactly like you posted.

OP. Was the sound similar to a Ferrari at high RPM? Because a few weeks ago when my MPE gets hot around 3800 it buzzes, sounds really good but I'm starting to think something may be wrong..
