Everyone's jumping ship and I'm just getting started

Everyday it seems like another car is being parted out, or listed for sale. Guess I haven't been part of the BMW community long enough to see the "transition" phase to new models, IE: The E46 to E9X. Now the E9X to F8X. What is quite apparent, is that the desire for the latest and greatest is strong. Yes, the F8X's are nice. Yes, they have the new technology, and a nice updated look. BMW did a great job on these cars, I will give them that. That does not give me the urge jump ship, and get rid of a platform which I continue to build, and love everyday.

If the chance arose today, to trade in my E92 for an F8X platform free of cost, I can confidently say I wouldn't do it. Pcar is obviously a whole different story, and when the time comes will most likely enjoy making that upgrade, who wouldn't?

Just curious on who plans on sticking around for a while

The best part about sticking around is the huge fire sale on aftermarket parts. So much good stuff popping up everywhere. I'll be keeping my car around for at least another year. Definitely no interest in upgrading to the F8x though.

I think that whole argument where people say they everyone will jump ship in time is complete BS. There are still people to this day who want the E46 over the E92. I think i will always prefer the E92 over the F80. I can say i prefer the E60 over the F10, and the F10 has been out for years now.

I plan on ordering a stingray this January, because the buyout on my 2013 M3 lease doesn't seem worth it. I can put the money towards something different.

I can say this though, there are not many cars i like as much as the E92 M3. Not many new cars out today i really want.

Glad to hear you'll be around! That means more eye candy photography and track videos to keep things interesting What will you consider post E92?

Your right. I can still marvel over a pristine E46 today. If I had the opportunity to add a low mileage CSL to the garage, I would without question! One should only be so lucky. The S85 sound is truly iconic. Not sure any BMW has come close in replication, nor would it with BMW aiming towards better emissions now. I am sure there are many in your situation, facing a buy out cost at lease termination, and there I could see it making sense to move elsewhere. But others? Not sure...

I'm sticking around too. Having too much fun with my V8. And yes there's a huge fire sale on parts by the "I gotta have it first crew" who've made a move to the F8x M.

Absolutely no reason to change when it's a side grade performance wise (I'm supercharged) and a HUGE downgrade engine wise. There is no way the F80 can be as visceral than a V8 screaming to 8400 and scaring children while down shifting.

I'm also staying in the E92 game. In fact I'm currently considering a Dinan Stage II suspension upgrade. My next move will be a P-car but I plan to keep my E92 as well.....Phil

^ That's what I'm saying...this car delivers on all points. If someone gets a little penis envy with power, can always go supercharge option so you can have your cake and eat it too!

I have a year and half still on my lease. I don't plan on turning it early. I have had a somewhat strong desire for the E60 M5. I really would love to own that V10. But, it would have to be the right deal. I'm also intrigued with the M2 that will be coming out. Like others, I love this car everyday I drive it.

Getting an M2 when it comes out hopefully, while still keeping the E92 and modding it with the fire sale on parts. Regardless, the expenses in the next 2-3 years will be pretty funny. Can't wait.

To be honest, I think I'm going to maintain/restore a few things on the E92 this winter. So things like repairing and remounting CF bits, upsizing front tires, trying Leatherique on the interior... things like that. I always enjoy working on this car and then driving it.

I just got a brand new motor so count me in for the long haul! And I always keep on eye out for a clean ZCP E46. Mine really had a special place in my heart that no other car has been able to replace... Still can't believe some stupid girl took me out head on!

I hear ya. But the way I see it from my perspective. Mine is only a 2 car owner (first one was a doctor and took insanely good care of it), never seen snow, modified to my liking (just have brakes left to do), sounds like I want it to, always had clean Blackstone oil reports and best of all, it's almost paid off. Also forgot to mention I have yet to see a Sparkling Graphite/Bamboo Beige/CF roof/6MT. Not even 1 (well I did but it had sunroof)

I'm not too keen on going out there and starting all over again. It'd be foolish for me to say there won't be other cars in my future, but I see no reason to get rid of mine.

This is the only car that when something did need replacing, I looked forward to upgrading/modifying it. My E36 has been out of commission for a month and it's been pissing me off the whole time haha.

Going to keep mine indefinately. Love this car after we supercharged it and installed Ohlins coilovers. Recently got a used Akra muffler from a forum member which is pared with Gintani x-pipe. This car is a keeper. Sound of a supercharged v8 with this exhaust is insane. And acceleration in this cooler temp. is phenomenal. No way i am trading it for f80. Or anythihg else.

now is an excellent time to be an E9x M3 owner for the value oriented buyers. Many wealthier people who only want the latest fastest most expensive and most exclusive car on the market have already moved on to Vettes, 911, F80 M3, GTR, R8, etc.... So used E9x M3 are going for cheap on the used car market, and there are killer deals on used mods too. I'm picking up coilovers and a BBK for my car over the winter and I'm gonna put them on next spring before track season starts. Might also try to do rod bearings and subframe/diff bushings to get rid of the remaining weaknesses of the car.

Even out of warranty, the key is proactive maintenance and care of the S65 engine.

Yes, performance is often one of the main attributes evaluated in change. Though I think with the F8X it might not be about engine performance only warranting a change, for me at least. The solid rear mounted subframe and carbon ceramic brakes are very nice editions to the platform. But agree, this V8 is something special.

That would be the ideal situation, and seems a few guys around here have done the same. I imagine the E9X's will remain a staple in the stable for a bunch of enthusiasts, myself included.

The E60 M5 in stock form still has great presence. Paired with an Eisenmann exhaust, it might be fair to say is the best sounding BMW to date? If the M2 continues where the 1M left off, it will be a great platform for sure. Part of me never wants to own and modify a turbo engine. From all I have seen dating back to the 335i's, altering turbos is just a recipe for disaster.

Like your style The M2 will be great, but it will not take the place or feel of the S65 V8. Now having both, I could deal with! I too never pass up the opportunity to work on my E92. Stress relief! keeps me sane
