Short Road Trip advice - West Palm Beach, FL - Savannah
I'm from CA and taking a trip in March to my in-laws in FL. Planning on a road trip from West Palm Beach area to Savannah. I wont have my car with me, but figure even the rental car will cruise pretty smoothly at 90.
I am planning on bringing my V1, but wanted to ask if anyone can tell me if the majority of the Highway patrol in FL and GA use instant-on/LIDAR (which for the most part renders the V1 useless), and or if there are any know speed traps or towns that are known as common areas for tickets in I-75. Thanks |

While a lot of times the local cops use LIDAR, I have noticed that highway patrol for the most part uses KA band radar here in FL. I usually detect it with my V1 for a good while before I see the trooper. Lookout though because I have seen them use LIDAR from time to time.
FWIW, if you stay around 80/hang with faster traffic, they probably won't bother you. EDIT: I don't usually travel on 75, but I assume if you're going from West Palm to Savannah, you'll be taking 95? |

Thanks for the advice, my father-in-law (who drives 55 on the freeway), said the cops are pretty tight in FL, and I dont exactly drive slowly (even in a rental car). So just wanted other's opinions, your reply has put me more at ease. Thanks. |

No problem. One more thing, I drive about 40 miles on Florida's turnpike 4 days a week for the past 4 years and have never been stopped. I keep it just under 80...sometimes just over. ::knocks on wood::

I just did that trip last weekend. KA band all the way on my 9500, heaviest in Palm Beach Co. and just north of the FL/GA border. I didn't get hit by Lidar like some of the others.
also, I95 is much better than the Turnpike. Turnpike is absolutely crawling with FHPpies especially in Osceola county |

I have a brand new V1 and, unfortunately, have found it damn near useless in GA. I drive 250 miles weekly from Atlanta to Nashville and its only saved me once (in TN). So I can say in GA, you probably won't benefit with the V1
FWIW, however, I have driven past several GA troopers at 85mph and they haven't bothered...fortunately
