the M3 feels a bit heavy, bulky, not as nimble as like E46 or Z4M or even the 370z... not as raw as i'd wanted it to be, im kinda over it too... well except when i'm in 3rd gear, but hey you'll enjoy the Z's 2nd gear (until u shift up) |

That's quite a step down, but whatever makes you happy. I also have considered a 370z, but for the purpose of gutting it and making it a track car, while also keeping my M3.

You would be highly disappointed with the 370z...they always say once you go German you never go back. I had a couple of g35's prior and I must say Nissan cars are just not built solid..rattles, handling is no where near, and it just doesn't have that feel of confidence. What is true is that I feel like Nissan gets cars right the 2nd time around i.e. the new g35/g37 sedan, the fx, and I'm sure the 370z. I just feel that it still doesn't compare to a german built car. The ISF may be the exception to this. Just my opinion.

Yeah. I have to agree with pretty much everyone here. The reason I would step DOWN to a 370Z is b/c of financial reason(s). That's it. If finance is not the issue, than definitely don't go to the 370Z.
Having said that, I do feel your need/want of a manual tranny though. As nice as the DCT is on the M3, I think I would get bored as well. Like others have said....consider other cars like the S5 or wait it out and maybe take a look at the RS5! If you like the M3 but just want a stick, than definitely look at the M3 with manual tranny. Want four doors...consider the RS4 (fantastic low end torque IMO). But if you must go Japanese, at least consider the Nissan GTR. |

I actually test drove a 370Z about 2 months ago just because I wanted to see what all the press hoopla was about.
The rev match works pretty well, but the overall impression is that of a much cheaper car that seriously lacks refinement. The salesmen was an older guy that was very professional, and I did my best to say the car was nice and I would give him a call in a week. You know what he said to me? Direct quote "you can't expect to drive in here in a new M3 and get excited over a Z car. I knew when I saw what you were driving that this car wasn't for you." Don't do anything crazy. Tell your dealership you don't like your tranny.... they will be very helpful in getting you into a car that you are happy with. Give it a try... start with the sales manager. |

Man you guys are harsh. Obviously the 370z is not on the same level as the M3 but its not like its a daewoo or something. Its a great car for the money and will outperform virtually any car in its price range and even a lot of cars much more expensive than it. Throw some nice wheels on it and give it a drop and its damn sexy too. Sounds like that the op might be looking for if he is bored with the m3.

I have a 370z 6M and it's definitely no M3 or a bmw for that matter. the car's 'feel' is quite nice on its own but the gearbox and engine is fueled by bolts and nuts that have been left behind by the engineers. if you already have an m3, maybe you'd like to get the manual version?
that said its not totally bad, the car's been trouble free and entertaining for canyon runs. all it needs is a BMW engine really. (oh.. and tire roar is as bad as the reviews said it was) |

To the OP: Have you thought about performance modding your M3? If you're going to spend money, why not put in a new exhaust or even RD Stroker?

I'd pick-up a Z4MC or a used 911S over a 370Z if you want something more raw. Yah, yah, these are more expensive cars and shouldn't be compared to the 370Z, but the OP can afford it, and money isn't an issue so who cares. Going to a 370Z because it has syncromesh from a M3 is analogous to a sleeping with the ugly chick because you're interested in slumming it and hear that she's good at playing with your ding dong. At some point, the novelty wears off and you realize you can get the hot chick and teach her to do the same thing too.

How can anybody get bored with an E9x M3 w. DCT? If you're left foot gets bored, try left foot braking. Once you get good at it, it's like driving a formula car or playing PlayStation. Another thing you could do is take the car to the track, and just watch how many 370s you effortlessly blow by I mean, just look at the performance numbers... over 1/2 sec quicker 0-60, more top end, etc. Also, if you have an iPod, get one of those apps that turn it into a g-meter and go have some fun. Finally, have you discovered the in-dash timer yet?

I think that is the one thing wrong with the 6MT. It needs a shorter final drive of 4.10 and maybe a slightly taller 6th gear and it will be perfect.

I understand exactly what all you guys are trying to tell me. I mean i'm not THAT serious about the 370 but it's a fun little option that's not hefty on the wallet. I mean i'm not having financial issues, but it's always better to save a little money here and there in this economy. The reason I changed from my S5 was because I had some suspension issues, and it was going to take a while to fix, and very costly, and warranty wouldn't cover it because I put H&R race springs on it, and it wasn't the smartest of my choices, but the car looked and handled greatly. I like the M3 6 speed, i've driven it, but I put such a huge down payment on this M already, that I don't think it would be worth my while to break this lease, and then get another M3, and start off with a huge down payment again...but anyways here's a few pics of my m3 and S5 for those of you that wanted to see them.
