Final version - custom speaker adapters

Picked up the parts from the machine shop today. The final version looks much better than the original prototype. Here's some pics

Here you can see that multiple speaker mounting holes have been added to accommodate both 6 hole and 4 hole mounts.

On the back side you can see the areas around the slots to bolt the adapter to the door have been bored out to allow more threads on the OEM bolt to catch the nuts. The OEM bolt is only about 1/2" long. The original prototype made the nut look like it was holding on for dear life.

Without the speaker mounted you can see all the holes available for 4-hole and 6-hole mounts

Back side pictures (no boring around the outer slots for the OEM bolts.

Some pics of it installed on the door panel

Another thing I did was use flattened head machine screws to mount the speakers to the ring. I originally used pan head machine screws but I noticed that when I mounted it to the door panel the pan head protruded enough for it to make a noticeable depression in the door panel. With these, it is flat on both the top and at the joint to the threaded section to it doesn't "sit up" like a normal flat head and doesn't protrude like the pan head.

If anybody is interested in these, let me know. I had 20 (10 pairs) made in the original run as that's pretty much the minimum.

Just the front doors. You don't really need anything for under the seats except do remove the ribs on the bottom of the enclosure. That will allow you enough depth to install the SWS8s. As far as I know, anything deeper than an SWS will require a custom enclosure.

I think you know I want a set.

I know the a/d/ss will fit, cutout is too big for the RS100, and technically the Renaissance but I think with the grill frame it'll cover the opening, Hertz doesn't make a high end 4" (only a 3"). Man, I need to do some research.

Anyway, here's the manual for the Morel version of the Renaissance 4".

Are these needed to update the speakers in the rear shelf?

Actually, I did the design of the piece and the 2D drawings. The machine shop helped with the 3D drawings and did the CNC work. I had a bunch made just because doing a one off on a CNC part is very expensive. I'm selling the remainder of what I got but the CNC guy said that he could make another batch in a week or so if enough people are interested. Cost is $50/pair + $5 shipping to anywhere in the US.

Rear shelf or rear doors? I never test fitted either position since I don't have rear door speakers. Quality sound indicated that its not needed for the rear shelf but I've never checked myself.

Sent you a PM.

In that picture they aren't covered but I was thinking about running some weatherstripping around the edge to help with the seal.

Still got a couple sets left. If anybody is interested, send me a PM.

Here's more installed pics. I decided to add some foam and rubberized weather stripping around the edge of the mid to help seal it to the back of the door panel.

would these fit 5 1/4" speakers?
i'd love to upgrade to 5.25 Vs 4"
4" is too limited in how much bass it can produce

Unfortunately no. The cutout is too small for a 5.25". There is a post about someone mounting a 5.25 with no adapter but I think it was an MB Quart shallow mid. Your biggest problem with the 5.25" is the depth. If you can find a shallow one, the next thing to check is that the outer diameter fits between the OEM mounting points.
