I never liked running and love biking though, so I'm biased.

Hmm well i think it might have to do with the way my foot hits the ground when i run. I think i tend to run with my ankle rolling out. Dang...

I had a bike, but my X stole it from me, and well never got one since. I dont have a pool, so swimming isnt really an option.

Bella,

If that is the case then you need to get out of the GT-2110 ASAP. Of course I am hesitant to say that is the case without looking at some pictures, etc. Best advice = go see a professional. Oh and I got to agree with Asiann... as someone who has been coaching for a long time the R.I.C.E. method is the absolute best method to help recover from an injury.

Lots of great advice given here already. I've always had a problem with shin splints. I have orthotics, proper running shoes make a difference (not just buying what looks nice), and changing your types of cardio routines (running on a treadmill, running outside, biking, ellipical, stair climber etc.), and dont push too hard, make sure you give your shins a rest if they start to act up.

Never had shin splints but had turf toe twice in college. If shin splints are anything like turf toe, I really feel for you.

Shin splints can become a life long pain if not treated properly and with preventive measures. I had a good friend that had to get out because of it. When I was at Ft Jackson we saw this and many other overuse injury on a daily basis. It was bound to happen with people joining the Army and never exercising at all before coming in. You go from sitting on your ass playing PS2 and then come into the Army and start exercising everyday and things will start to break down!

Thanks! Good write up of the shoes! Many people overlook that and just buy what looks good and not what best fit their foot type. Here is an excellent website for that! http://www.runnersworld.com/shoefind...71-0-0,00.html

Not a problem. It was excellent adivce that I haev used time and time again with my kids.

On the runners world topic, I would be careful using their shoe finder. Their categories are a little too broad. Great site to read reviews if you know the industry well enough and are familiar with what you need. However, I do tend to find that they always miss the target big time on smoe of their ratings.... I thinkin an attempt to keep some of their more mainstream readers happy. Often times I have seen them rate what in my experience were horrible shoes compared to others in the category / price-point simply because it was the newer, popular shoe (not these also tended to be the shoes that had huge adds in the magazine... wonder if there was a connection... not that I could blame 'em, gotta make the money somehow).

Shin splints is a condition that causes pain and sometimes swelling in the front part of the lower leg (shin). This condition is caused by inflammation of the fibrous covering of the bone (periosteum) and the attached muscle fibers.

Most often, shin splints are the result of repeated pounding (impact loading) on hard surfaces during athletic activities such as running, basketball, or tennis.

besides exercise, high heels can cause shin splits too and also aggrevate them so you should just wear flat shoes for a while if you don't already.

I remember that my running coach used to say that whenever possible, try to run on soft surfaces to minimize the impact on hard surfaces. So Bella, your idea of running on grass is a good idea, but be careful of gopher holes. We always used to run on trails covered with wood chips.

A better place to run is one of those recycle rubber tracks. They are soft and better for your feet and legs with lower impact than hard surfaces.
