2012 Economic Stimulus Plan: E92 M3 race build
It's that time again...new race car build! This time it's a 2008 M3 DCT. Some pics:
Just delivered: Shaking it down in stock form 1 week before the warranty expires: Gutting it the day after the warranty expired: Dropping it off at Eric Langbein Racing for a cage: A garage full of parts from Bimmerworld, just waiting for the car: Hope to have it ready by NASA Nationals, will be running in GTS-4 or ST-2. I'll keep this up to date with progress reports. Max |

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Subscribed.
You wasted no time in throwing on a set of Continental scrubs! One question--did you choose a DCT car based on the likely lap time advantage of a manually-driven DCT vs. a traditional manual? Any concerns about potential longevity/maintenance cost issues associated with the DCT? If I'm reading the NASA rules correctly, the DCT will create a 7-point "adjustment" or penalty over the BTM/base trim model (which I would assume is the 6MT). So NASA obviously thinks a sequential manual is a competitive advantage. I'm curious because I have a DCT E90--turn it in at end of lease, or start the "conversion"? |

Looking good. That cage fits well. Have you had any issues with various sensors going haywire due to removing everything? I worry about that when I go to build mine. I know the E92 has a ton of random sensors, headlight level etc.

Suprisingly, no issues. This car has lots of electrical crap in it, but most isn't needed for a race car. I'll probably thin out the wiring harness in the offseason.
