e92 Extended Warranty options - Any dealers offering discounted 100k warranty?

I believe my rates may be a lot more, since i'm 200 miles from the 50k marker.. lol

I haven't driven the car for the past month since I'm trying to make a decision whether or not to go ahead with it.

Im actually at my dealership now. Just got the following quote for my 2010 e90 M3 with ~45k miles:

$66xx for 7 yr/100k miles

Assuming ~10k miles a year, that's only 2-3 oil changes during the warranty (~$650 total cost done independently). That leaves ~$6000 in "other" costs.

Looking at the statistics, only ~0.3% of cars reported on this forum and elsewhere have had an actual rod-bearing failure (~50% of this 0.3% were supercharged, supposedly). With the information available, I would guess those #'s would go down with regular oil analyses and doubling the oil change interval (every 7500 miles). If the analysis is bad, you can get the bearings swapped for ~$2500. This now leaves ~$3500 for "other other" costs.

Of course, if you are really unlucky and your engine blows, you have the opportunity to fight a dealership for a new engine and MAYBE get one...see other threads for that.

Now, for the DCT. Mechanically, it's covered, but the clutches are not. I would guess that the clutches would need to be replaced before any other part of the DCT, so you are out more cash from pocket and the warranty still needs to incur ~$3500 before its value is made back.

There are not that many other parts that are SUPER expensive in this car, as with most cars, when going to a trusted independent mechanic. I suppose a catastrophic electrical failure could occur, but my last car (C6 vette) had such a failure and the dealership refused service under warranty. I had a tail light assembly (the whole thing) replaced on the M3 at the dealership and with their high prices, it would have only been ~$400, including labor if not for the warranty. Not chump change, but not $3500 either.

In sum, these cars are pretty bulletproof and have proven to do well in high-stress environments and for at least 5-6 years. I am still debating on the warranty, but am leaning against.



A total financial side note: if you invest the $6600 for 3 years instead of "warrantying" it, you can earn ~5-8% a year with a savvy strategy. That can make you ~$1600, which more than covers your oil changes and misc. minor fixes over the three years that the warranty would have covered... and you still have your $6600.

FYI: Oil changes are not covered on the extended warranty unless you're buying the maintenance package as well. Two totally different things.

What was your quote? I just bought 48 months from purchase/75,000 miles on the odo of coverage for $3,100. Like most insurance, the cost depends on a lot of factors. Age and mileage of the car are big factors. My car is 3+ years old with 36,xxx miles on the odo...

My quote was $3k for 24months 24,000 miles.

Car is an 09 with 54k on the clock

If I move the mileage down to 50k it goes down $1,000!!! Those are some expensive 4k miles.

I just got an additional 48 months and 50k miles of platinum coverage on my 2010 E92 with 28k on the odometer for $3400 at the Alexandria,VA dealership. Fairfax wanted nearly $2k more for less coverage! Today was my last day of factory coverage.

I had the same problem once I moved the miles past 50k. 51k, 52, 53, 54k all cost the same, but 49k was a huge discount.

Third party product or BMW warranty? To be clear - you have an additional 4 years starting yesterday? Seems like a great deal - but don't know what level your plan is.
