That is just the lower pan. The side pan ALSO leaks, and BMW calls for transmission removal to do it. Replace the lower pan, side cover plate, side cover gasket, refill with fluid, and cleanup the oily mess on your trans and undertray runs well over $2500 at a dealer. I see the OP is in Jakarta, Indonesia, so our US prices mean nothing to him.
This is VERY COMMON on all DCT transmissions. We replace them all the time, now. Even a Z4 with only 40k miles was leaking all over the place. BMW makes awesome cars, but they can't seal an engine to save their lives! It's unbelievably pitiful how many oil leaks crop up on BMW engines. Other companies design and supply the gaskets, but BMW uses the same companies that Audi and other manufacturers use, so why do BMW engine gaskets suck so badly? It's baffling.

The other companies have plenty of leaks as well. When a Mercedes has a transmission leak from their trans harness sealing sleeve, it works its way up the wiring into the transmission control unit and takes it out. Without any signs of external leakage. I'd call that a problem. |

I have just purchased a 2005 E92 M3 and took the car in for an oil service at 62,00km.
The technicians noticed similar leaks, as discussed, to the DCT transmission sump. The problems is the oil seals fail and BMW do not manufacture these separately. Therefore, you have to purchase an entire new sump/panel. Picked up the car yesterday. No difference in performance. |

Apologies for reviving an old thread but figure this was the best way of trying to find a solution.
My buddy's 2009 E92 M3's (DCT) transmission started leaking fluid few days ago. Took it to a indy who said to take it to dealership and they will probably end up replacing the tranny. Took it to another reputable indy in the area who took apart the tranny for diagnosis (10 hour labor). He found some BMW bulletin that recommends changing the flywheel for this leak but he thinks it will fix the leak but can't guarantee it won't come back. After doing some searching I haven't been able to find any info on this and was hoping someone here can chime in. Unfortunately, this is all the info I have right now. I am going to try and get a hold of shop tomorrow and try to get some more details. Thanks. |

I've never seen any mention about changing a flywheel (do DCT's even have traditional flywheels?) but I'm not a DCT expert by any means.
I'd be worried that your indy knows enough about DCT's to accurately diagnose the true issue. I definitely would make sure before they put things back together and fill it with fluid, that they use the CORRECT fluid. Make sure they know and see the bottles in hand PRIOR to fill. If not... well ask Helmsman about the hassle you'll face! |

Did some googling... apparently there is a dual mass flywheel in the DCT. I still can't see how the flywheel can cause the leak but that's why I'm not a BMW Engineer or BMW Tech lol
All of the DCT leaks have been resolved by changing out the gaskets for the most part. Do a search for SSPKris threads on the DCT. They are extremely knowledgable. |

Hey thanks for the response. It's my car, he basically said something along the lines of the flywheel causing the tranny to shake? That's what the bulletin was. I'm gonna call him in the morning and see if he can give me the bulletin number. Any response until then would be appreciated, as he wants me to make a decision on replacing the flywheel or not fairly quickly.
