M3 engine noise???

So ive had my m3 for about 2 weeks now and after much avail my break in period is over and the car has about 1140 miles on it but when i started it this morning there was a very weird noise coming from the engine. It was a ticking noise that would increase when I would speed up and just be a constant when I was at a stoplight. Im not sure if it is because the break in is over and it needs to be serviced or it is just a random incident but the car still runs the same just with an annoying tick. Has anyone faced anything like this or is it just ready for its first service?

I know you've said the break in period is over but have you serviced it? The ticking doesn't sound good but if;
you had the 1200 service, make sure that your oul level is good.

you haven't serviced it yet, take it to the dealer and if the ticking sound doesn't go away when you turn it on at the dealer, don't leave before they address that sound or at least make a note in the computer about it just in case.

Basically go to the dealer anyway either for the service or the sound and make sure it's reported on the computer

Sounds like there's been a bomb planted in your car. Lol, just kidding. I don't know what it can be, maybe the belt is loose? I'd take it to the dealership first thing Monday morning.

Slight ticking is normal for the S65..... it is not the most mechanically engine in the world..... Knocking however is not normal.

Your owners manual acknowledges that slight ticking or tapping at idle is normal. Post a video and myself or one of the other members here will let you know if it is indeed normal or not.

I scheduled an appointment for first thing on monday morning and told them about the noise and my first service. Hopefully it will all get resolved because it has not impeded my performance at all it is just the slightest annoyance and I think m3 owners can feel my pain even the smallest annoyance makes a world of difference.

"Performance"?
So you have gone over 5500 RPM without doing your first service?

Check oil level - lower levels have cause a little valve tick in other high performance engines I've owned.

Where did you buy your car? I just picked up a 2011 E92 in Houston last week.

I am not sure if it is the oil but I scheduled my service for it Monday morning to check it out. I just bought my car two weeks ago from momentum on 59. Which m3 did you buy because I saw all of them in Houston.

It is misinformation like this that makes me hate the forums. There have been no changes to any internal engine parts since 2008 MY when they changed the main bearing part numbers.

To the OP, like I said above, there is most likely no issue with your engine. Some slight ticking in the S65 is acceptable and normal. Post a video and someone will let you know if your sound is normal or not!

Maybe it was but the OP has a serious question and wants and answer not some guy screwing around. There is a time to joke and a time to be serious!

I had the ticking right after my first service and it wasn't there before that. It took about a week and it went away. Every no and then I'll hear it, but far and few between.

No worries Dave, this ticking is going to occur intermittently in your engine but it is normal. An engine of this high-performance nature is very rarely totally mechanically quiet.
