This is $10,000 cash. See, its small...

how do we know that's not a stack of 1's with a couple hunneds on top?

The more and more I read this forum..... it dawned on me that it's much less likely that Valencia BMW stole the $ but more likely OP was able to cross the T's and dot the I's without providing money in one form or another. The purchaser accepted the paperwork and keys from the salesman and floored it out the lot, cash in hand.

In fact a picture is provided that it's still in possession.

I sold my last car to someone and they paid strictly in cash...granted it was 17k only..still they did it in all cash...so I don't think it is that strange at all.

^ This seems like a likely scenario, although I must say I have no personal knowledge of any of these parties. However, if you look at it logically, it is highly unlikely that a finance manager is going to take someone's cash, pocket it over a paperwork technicality, repossess a customer's car, and draw a ton of potential criminal/legal attention and bad p.r. for $20K.

I also like to put big down payments when I purchase cars, but I would never hand over a wad of cash. I pay by making the dealership accept it on AMEX after the agreed price is finalized. That way everything is on record, my purchase is guaranteed, I pay no interest, and I get points. Not to mention AMEX sticks them with a 3-4% fee on their end just to add a little sting to the profit they're making on me.

I find it amusing how a lot on here assume the worst from the OP when none know anything about his background and jump to conclusions. Every allegation made is simply conjecture.

Maybe the OP is a shady one, or maybe he isn't. Does anyone here know him personally?

Strange as it is to pay $20K in hard cash, while not the norm, is not unheard of.

Like many of you, I too am interested in seeing how this story unfolds

Yeah I paid for my Bugatti Veyron in cash. 1.5 million wasnt that much.. only a few stacks. But damn, it took like a day for my bank to get the notes, even after they saw my account balance (of 3124321 million)

I've never been able to get a dealer to accept a credit card for a down payment. I'd love to have gotten that many miles! If you don't mind my asking, what sort of AMEX card?

BTW, Happy Birthday Benjamin Franklin!

P.S. SZK, I totally believe what a baller you are, would you be interested in some custom leather-covered carbon fiber hubcaps for that car? I guarantee they'll increase top speed by 5MPH

Business Platinum. I normally spring it on them at the last moment when they ask me to hand over the down payment. They always resist, but I don't give them any other choice as I'm always willing to walk.

It is Ben Franklin's birthday! What a funny factoid. Hmm... how many Benjamins are in 20K?... only 200. Not a big stack.

Any updates?

Wow, this whole thing is crazy.

Sarcasm aside, I feel really bad for you op. If I were you I would go to the dealership and demand to see surveillance tapes or talk to the exact guy that you gave the money to. If they call the cops then good. Also, does the guy that you gave the money to just flat out deny ever seeing it?

I know 20k sounds like a lot because of the amount but if you think about it, 20k in hundreds is the same number of bills as 200$ in ones. That is only 200 bills so someone could have definitely put it in their sock or something.

I hope I am not the only one the believes the OP. I can definitely see how someone would be able to walk off with all that cash. I also find it highly unlikely that the OP would think that he could get away with just telling the dealership that he gave them the money and they just lost it.

It sounds to me like one of the low level sales guys that took the cash from you just pocketed it and now the senior level execs for the dealership are backing him based on his word because they truly have no idea that he actually did jack your money. I seriously doubt it is a giant conspiracy set up by the whole dealership. The main person you need to lean on is the guy that you actually handed the money too because right now, it is your word against his. Unfortunately, the only thing you can probably do is sue the dealership and ask for them to pay your attorney fees if you win.

yesterday "Monday" I checked at the dealership on the one and only M3 e93 2008 they have for sale (assuming it was or is the original posters M3).

Manager wrote back to me .... this;-

Good afternoon Rolf-Dieter,

You inquired this afternoon about one of my vehicles, a 2008 BMW M3 Convertible. This vehicle was actually sold last night. It can take a few days for it to be removed from the websites. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Yeah I would've made a bigger deal than posting on the forum
I would go up to the guy I handed cash to and confront him until he cries
I would demand looking at security tape right then and there
I would never let them take the car back to begin with
I would have hired a lawyer by the first minute they called for payment
Last thing I would do is leaving a dealer without a cash payment receipt
