Identify these RIMS, I think one of you guys has them. . .

I posted this in the M3 Section because I'm about 90% sure one of you guys has these rims on a Melbourne Red E92. And I'm looking to upgrade my wheels before winter kicks in. Thanks in advance guys! And what are your thoughts on the rims in general? Personally I think they look amazing.

HRE P40 Monoblok Rims with the brushed finish. I agree they look amazing. There is a thread on NAGTROC with a ton of cars using these rims from the new GTR to porches etc...

great looking rims... but HREs are generally a little pricey... not sure bout the exact price but i know its 4k+...then again they are monoblock forged rims so you do get a high quality lightweight rim.

Any vendors on the forums sell them? And if anyone has an exact price PM me. It would be a 50/50 gift for my bday, from my girlfriend. I'm turning the 172M style rims into winters and purchasing a pair of summers while I can still get a decent price

***Tom, thanks for those shots of the VMR 710s. . .the Matte Blacks look stellar but I don't think they would jive well with the Carbon Black Metallic. . .at any rate what do a set of these run in a 19". . .Even though I really have my eyes set on the HRE's

Yup, we're an authorized HRE dealer and I have them on my E92 M3 in gloss charcoal. You can find them in our online catalog here.

BTW, the HRE's are one-piece forged so they are lighter and stronger than a cast wheel. P40s in 19x9 & 19x11 weigh 23# front and 24.125# rear. Most cast wheels in a similar size weigh 26 to 28#. If you use 7 pounds as the factor to measure the rotational mass, 4 pounds of wheels equates to 112 pounds added to the car (4# X 7 X 4 wheels). That's why lightweight wheels and tires can make a big difference.

I have v710s on my E92. absolutely LOVEEEE these wheels. I wouldve got the HREs but they are pricey IMO. not worth it. at least if i bend one of theses it wont hurts as much lol. but i say go for it. that e60 looks amazing with them on.

Not 7 pounds, but 7 times the weight because it is a rotating mass. That is the common factor used by most people. I'm not an engineer, so before I go spewing hearsay, I thought I'd do a little research. What I found was factors quoted as high as 10 times or as low as 2. What appears to be the truth is the farther the mass is from the axis of rotation, the more affect it will have. I interpret that to mean the actual factor will depend where the weight is saved. Tires should theoretically make a bigger difference than the wheels. What that would also mean is those REALLY expensive Dynamag wheels with CF spokes would make a bigger difference in unsprung weight than rotational mass, since they are saving most of the weight close to the axis of rotation.

I also found a really good post at BimmerForums from 2003 here. The member StevenGee calculated a 0-60 difference of 2/10's of a second comparing a 36# wheel/tire combo to a 49# set on an E36 M3.

The bottom line is a lighter wheel/tire combo is definitely a performance mod. Another spec that is thrown around a lot is every 100 pounds of weight saved is equivalent to 10HP. Whatever the correct calc is, no one wil argue that weight is an enemy of performance (both speed and handling).
