Question for Harry's Lap Timer Users

I realized it cuts the videos every lap. how can i get a full session recording. is there a feature inside to stitch each lap video together?
Thanks

The latest version records continuously (multi lap) but will overlay laps individually (including selectable intro and extro times). To get multiple laps overlaid, you need to join the individual clips on your desktop. A multi lap overlay is a frequent request, so I plan to add it to the the autumn 2012 release.

Hope that helps.

it would be nice to have a continuous (multi-lap) overlayed version where it can list your lap times on top right corner or just show the best and the last. (like in need for speed )

Thanks again

After watching the videos using Harry's Lap Timer, I went down to the cell phone store. I am about to purchase the i Phone 4 S, DataPro 3GB. Will I need anything else, other than the App and some kind of mount to hold the cell phone for the video. The system looks great.
Thanks

you will need a mount with a suction cup. then its good to go. i would play around and get familiar with it before going to track though. I think we might be able to attach an external mic and attach it in a covered area to avoid wind sound when windows are down.

An external GPS add-on looks like a good idea as it increases the accuracy. The phone's built-in GPS lags a bit and the report rate is slower.

I love how harry's can post directly to youtube after it overlays - it makes all that so easy... I start the process after a track day on the way home. By the time I get home the video with overlay is already uploaded!

I've also got the ipad trainer version - mainly so I can watch other guys out on the track. Harry - I hope you develop that further so it can so more data... like speeds on the straights and corners, max, average etc.

I follow his forum frequently here http://www.gps-laptimer-forum.de/sea...ch_id=newposts

Is this a good one? it would be great if someone using a ram mount currently could chip in on model suggestion.

You don't necessarily need the ODBII wi-fi link for Harry's LT app to work. It does however allow for the engine data to be tracked and overlaid on the video. Unfortunately, Apple is very selective about what it Bluetooth connects to for OBDII and GPS. See the Harry's Lap Timer homepage for information

http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html

If you have a Droid phone, you can connect to cheaper higher accuracy GPS units and use the Trackmaster app:

You can collect engine data on Droid using the Torque app and a cheaper Bluetooth OBDII connection. That is what I was using for shift lights at the weekend. I don't know if Trackmaster supports OBDII data to get rev/gear data on the video overlay.

Anyway, something to check on before spending $400 on an i-phone and i-phone compatible gadgets if you already have a Droid

[Ask me how I know all this! Fortunately, I wasn't too much out of pocket and the gizmos still work with my "disconnected" Droid. LOL! You forget that without the cell service, these smart phones still allow the apps to work. We are so used to throwing old phones in a drawer and not using them. Smart phones still work as standalone computers!]

My setup:

Ram mount:
RAM-HOL-AP9 RAM HOLDER FOR APPLE IPHONE 4
RAP-B-166U UNPD RAM MNT W/ SUCTION BASE DBL ARM DIA
Mounted to the left of rear view mirror. Added zip ties just for extra safety (you will figure out how. Never needed them so far)

Dual xgps 150 with 5hz firmware upgrade
Velcroed on the dash middle in front of the vents.

Harry's lap timer: this app is awesome!!!

Need to get obd soon again. I had the kiwi with my old 3G but it didn't work well with the lap timer. I want to try again with 4s.

Hope this helps.

I think the best mount is this:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-for-iphone-an

BUT, it is not in production yet.

Looking at the picture of the amazon link, yes it should clear.

It sort of does that. It shows your lap times after every time you pass the start/finish line. And it has a countdown timer from your best lap, so you know how much time you have left to make the last corner There were some more info on the display, but I couldn't pay too much attention.

I have Ultimate GPS and KIWI OBD2 WIFI. Last time I was at the track, Ultimate GPS worked at 3Hz although it is spec'ed to be 5Hz. Kinda disappointed at that, but it is still better than iPhone's internal GPS unit.

KIWI OBD2 WIFI works decently. It is suggested to but the phone in airplane mode (and of course turn on the wifi) and have no background apps trying to fetch data. Otherwise the data you get from KIWI is sometimes wrong. Also, unfortunately, you may not get all the data you are looking for. It depends on the car, and what the car wants to send out. For example, I get to see revs and throttle input in my car, but not brakes.

Probably not very easy to do, but the best place to attach ext mic is under the rear bumper. You get an exhaust note like c63 amg.
