Abs sensors going bad?
So I got a abs/ brake intermittent warning light. My cheep code reader did'nt pull any codes. Brought it to the dealer, read the codes and it was the left rear sensor. They changed it and charged me over $300.
A month later I'm getting the light again. They want to quote me the diagnostic fee again and charge me the fee if another sensor is bad. SA says once one goes bad they all may start going bad. The M's a 2011 with 28k miles. My question, any code readers that are reasonably priced that I can trace this down without going through the dealer. It's cheaper to just replace the remaining sensors myself than to get ripped off like this every time one goes bad.

Not if his factory warranty expired early this year even though he still under 50k miles. I have only 33k on my 11' E90 and the factory warranty expired in July.
There are scanners that can pull codes, shadow codes, and real time information. It all depends on the scanner itself and how much your willing to spend as the more you spend the more in depth information you tend to get for diagnostics like with Bavarian Technic or Launch Tech. I would recommend finding a good Independent mechanic. I try to use dealers as a last option. Last edited by stevelp99; 11-18-2015 at 11:55 PM.. |

Oh! I see... Op, In your case? Your better off getting the parts and installing them yourself. Those sensors should run around 40-60 bucks a piece.

Yes, go on amazon and look for one that is compatible with BMW and of course that does read ABS error codes. I have seen them for approx. $150+ there are also blue tooth ones that work with your smart phone (just need to upload app) and good ones are around $100. I have been looking for one myself to check an ABS code on my other car. It's certainly pays for itself first time you use considering pretty much any dealer, no matter what brand, chargers at least $100 diagnostic fee.
