How long for production number for ED?

How long does it take for you to get a production number and confirmation on your date? I placed the order Jan 7th with a request for end of May (ED) delivery, but still haven't received a production # yet, my CA said it was in the order banks. I was also told i might not get confirmation on dates till March.

I would like to start requesting vacation days and booking plane tickets, etc... but i dont want to do that till i get a confirmation on the exact date that i can pick it up.

What was the experience like for others who have done ED?

Your production number depends on when you dealer has a production slot available. if you just placed your order <two weeks ago, you could be waiting a while.

ED dept in NJ will not confirm your pickup date until you have a production number.

ahh..ok..thanks. i thought that for ED orders, the production allocation doesnt come out of the dealer's pool/slot..

I'm sure someone else can clarify better, but as I understand it, BMW NA still has to give your dealer a slot that they receiver from BMW AG. It may not come out of the 200 (whatever) your dealer gets every year, but BMW AG still has to assign a slot within the global production. Until that happens, you're in a bit of a limbo.

You're still pretty far out, so getting your exact day shouldn't be a problem. I'd probably make most plans, except for buying a plane ticket.

Although I ordered from my dealer in May, I didn't get my official ED pick up date confirmation of Oct 17th until August 9th.
