Screw in PS2

I've been fortunate not to have any tire punctures for a long time so I don't know what's possible or stupid when fixing them. My left rear "acquired" a screw recently. Can I save the $600+ to replace both rear tires by plugging the one with the screw in it? Or is that unsafe?

As long as the screw isn't too close to the sidewall you should be good. Also ask for plug AND a patch on the repair.
You lose the tire speed rating after a fix, not recommended for track use but good enough for daily driving.

Tire "plugs" that are done from the inside of the tire make it "like-new" as long as it is in the tread area, according to my local tire guy. That said, when I had a puncture in one of the rear tires, I replaced it, but had the offending tire repaired as a "temporary" spare, should the unfortunate experience be repeated...

ON my last M, I had the tire get a nice puncture... Took it in and they refuse to fix it wanted me to spend $600 plus on two new tires since I had about 6,000 miles on them and it would look ackward... I was with my father that day and he said fuck it... We went to auto zone and spend $6 bucks, plug the hole. Put air on it... I got another 25,000 miles before I need to replace it... Try this first . Just my two cents.

^ I second this idea. I used a plug kit from autozone on one of my tires on my last car and it lasted a LONG time without leaking... well through when the tires were bald.

I had a bolt in mine...yes a bolt. Go to a reputable shop, they will know what to do.

My shop put a huge patch on the inside of the tire and its like new.

Dont confuse a plug with a patch. A plug is a treated piece of rope/shit that is threaded through the tire from the outside. A patch is vulcanized to the rubber from the inside and provided its away from the sidewall, will be as good as new. However, hopefully, the screw didnt go all the way through.

Yes exactly. I've had three punctures with this car and i've had each one patched no problem. But I would never use a plug.

The "tire" people will say yes (obviously to get a sale out of you), but it's BS. The tire will be as good as new

damn I think I got scammed then, I purchased the tire insurance from BMW they said the contis were run flat and nails could not be patched..

ive had to plug a tire several times.. none were near the sidewall though. drove fine and was safe.
