Kuni vs. Rasmussen (Portland)

Which service department is better? I bought my car in Salem and liked the service advisor but the drive is too far. Which dealership has better service?

O.T., but is your car the Space Gray one that is always parked by Obah?

I have taken my Bimmers to both and I now take them to Kuni. Part of the reason I do this is because I bought the E92 from them, but I have had a bad experience with Rasmussen. I took my 1997 540i to them with a problem, they didn't solve it, charged me $4,000, had my car for a month, blew my radiator (and charged me for it), and had an employee drive the car home every night (pretty sure on this due to the miles that they put on the car and how much gas that they charged me for in the bill.)

I am not at all saying that this is representative of Rasmussen, or their service department as a whole because I certainly like their parts department and a few of their client advisors and I think that they are a great dealer. I so far have had no problems with Kuni though and they have been great.

No problem, cool to know that there are more M3 owners in the area.

Contrary to Krueger, I bought my first new BMW from Rasmussen in 1973 and have been very impressed with their service in almost all regards. True, I have no experience with Kuni to compare to. I have never had a significant negative experience with Rasmussen.

It pays to develop a personal relationship with the service advisors no matter where you go, though. I've taken mine a bottle of wine when they do me a favor. It pays off.

Rasmussen also seems to lend more support to the local BMW club, and has an excellent parts department. The convienience factor is huge, though--I can drop my car off at 7:30 am and walk to work or take MAX (or they will drop you)--frequently for simple stuff it's ready by noon.

I 100% agree that Rasmussen is a great dealer and I think that they have a great parts department, I don't want to come across as saying anything bad about their dealership. I think that you have a better idea of what kind of service department that they have too!

What's the status of the repair of your car? did you ever track down a euro bumper source?

They're really not moving as fast as they should be and have ordered some wrong parts and have had to do some re-orders. They aren't able to purchase the Euro bumper (I've checked with both Kuni ad Rasmussen on this) but I may have a source with the help of BMW-M-Mexico yet they haven emailed me back recently. Most likely Ill take the car back, pop out the dent in the bumper as well as is possible and wait for the euro bumper to come in whenever it does. I'll also get the new exhaust because he stock one was dented.

Ever get a line on the Euro bumper?

I just got one ordered pre-painted from Simon@Rennspec. It should be here in a few weeks.

Does anyone have any experience with how either of these dealerships handle DCTs? I'm reading over in the service forum all of the horror stories of service departments not knowing about M cars in general, and especially DCTs. I bought my M3 at Kuni but by CA said my first service is at 3,000 miles. Knowing it's really at 1,200 miles I'm a little nervous about how they would handle things.

That's odd that they said that because they did the 1200 on my M3 6MT.

It could have been simply a salesman forgetting about a specific model. If it was the service department telling me 3,000 miles I'd look elsewhere for sure. I've asked my CA who I should talk to in the service department. I plan to ask 1.) When should I come in? and 2.) Will you change the transmission fluid on my M-DCT?

The service managers at Kuni would know that the M-cars all need the 1200 mi service.

I had my 1200 mi service done in Salem; the service advisor there knew that the DCT transmission fluid was not to be touched (I asked that specific question).

Rasmussen all the way. Purchased four cars from them the last 2 years after we originally tried to give Kuni our business.
