I would leave it at home because all RWD suck in the snow. To risky if you include the other drivers that can hit you.
Richmond, hoping it doesn't stick on the ground too long.

Thanks fot very valuable input everyone! Car will stay in the garage, I will drive my wife's SUV or work from home, or vice versa.

This is my first winter w/o a third car in the house. In the past m3's would hibernate during snow days. Luckily we don't get too much of it.

Good call. I would just like to STRONGLY reiterate what everyone above me has said, don't do it. I have evidence to back that up.

Took me 15 mins to exit a parking lot with 0.25" snow in my E39 M5 w/ PS2's once upon a time. Good stuff.

I wouldn't. My E46 I tried moving in my driveway one day on PSSs and just a coating of snow and it would literally not move. Forget about braking and turning on an actual road.

pilot super sports are considered a max performance summer tire = no snow traction

the definition of a "all season" tire is it provides some sort of snow/ice grip

summer tires are worthless is snow; even a tiny bit; dont risk it; thats why i run two sets of tires

On the contrary, the M3 is a great snow car ... with the right snow tires. I drove my old M3 year round, including crossing the Rockies 2-3 times each winter. I had Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds, which were perfect for the combination of snowpack, icepack, slush, and dry roads we get in Colorado. Blizzaks can be better in powder, but the low front end kind of precludes going out in 18" of fresh snow. But I had no problem getting around, including long steep snow-packed roads in rural areas.

Something else to consider for risking summer tires: If you do crash, guess who will be liable? (You.) In fact, in Germany (and perhaps elsewhere) snow tires are required throughout winter.

yea, you will be going nowhere in snow tires. Not to mention you wont be able to turn or stop. Not worth the risk.

Main concern is don't want to be left stranded with the car.
Do not even remotely consider doing this. It is a serious safety risk as well as risking doing serious damage to your precious car.

Virginia sees enough snow, and has enough cold temps that I would definitely get a set of proper winter tires if you want to drive your M3 during the winter.

This isn't an "if" question, it's a "when". Your car will have little to no grip. But you should have known that when you asked how an ultra high performance summer tire would perform in the snow.

Michelin (and BMW) will be happy to remind you that the Pilot Super Sport is not advised at temperatures near freezing.

Will you automatically die if you try to drive? No. It's your money and insurance premium at the end of the day.

I support this one. Conti's DWS 265/285 f/r. Very good car in the snow. One thing that people don't think about with summer tires in the winter is the rubber gets brittle fast. Your 300/220 tire will wear in faster than in the summer. Spend the extra money on winter or all season tires.

forget snow below <40 degrees calls for winter tires. not worth the risk .

with winter tires on the car is a blast in the cold months.

This.

I live in a very snowy town. My rwd 330i is a tank in snow with decent snows.
