Which tires? Need new ones for my 19" wheels (stock) e93 m3

Dealer says I need new tires "real soon." New ones are $1085 installed by the dealer (PS2s) for the rears.

Thoughts?

Edit: $2100 for set of 4.

I've heard people talking about conti's, but I'm not very familiar with any of them. PS2's are expensive, but I don't want to sacrifice the ride quality nor the performance I get out of the PS2s on the 19" wheels.

I went to tire rack to see how much the PS2's would be... and it gave me a warning when calculating shipping charges:

What does that even mean? I just put in my vehicle in tire rack, and chose OEM for tires.

Also, it listed the "ContiSportContact 3(Max Performance Summer)" as an option...which came to $1,194.29 total. So that's a pretty huge difference, saves me nearly $350. I'm concerned about ride quality though... and it seems to indicate that the PS2's that Tire Rack sells are different than the PS2's that BMW receives and sells.

Also, what is the load rating on the OE version of the tires? 93Y, 98Y is what I see.. ~1600 lb, ~1400 lb is what the tire rack ones are.

Quote:
The following tire you have selected has a higher load rating than the vehicle's Original Equipment (O.E.) tires. This typically results in increased ride harshness, which some customers may find undesirable.

To select a different tire, REMOVE the tire from your cart and search for a tire with a load rating that matches your vehicle's O.E. rating. To purchase the tire you have already selected, KEEP IN CART / CONTINUE.

I'm leaning towards the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11.

If you're thinking about the RE-11's then you'll also want to look at the Yokohama AD08. Personally when I did a drive test for both, I noticed that the AD08's were much better at turn in response. Grip levels are relatively the same, but the AD08 certainly caught my eye.

Here's a picture of the thread pattern:

AD08 does NOT offer rear stock size though; RE-11s do.

Correct, but most people tend to up-size like they did on the E46 M3's. Stock E46 M3 sizes were 225/255, and E46 m3 guys upsized to 245/275.

Same thing here... Up-size the tire sizes to 245/35-19 and 275/30-19 and you're set and good to go.

245/35's yes, but some sizes they are the same, like 255/35/19

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what are people's thoughts on the RE050 Pole Positions? They rank second only behind the PS2s on Tirerack's tire survey in their category.

Since the OEM PS2s are ranked as Max Performance Summer tires, I don't see a need to move up to Extreme Performance Summers like RE-11s or AD07/08s, especially given their significantly shorter tread life.

Thoughts?

im not all that concerned with the shorter life. my car only sees 5k a year or so. i just got the advans 2 days ago and plan on install today. when my ps2's are done i plan on re-11's for my stock wheels unless something even newer and better comes along in the meantime.

So what size AD08 rears would you guys recommend for the track? 255/35/19 are closer to OEM size, but would they have a smaller contact patch than the 275/30/19?

If you're using the OEM wheels, then you might be able to squeeze a 255 up there, but since the AD08's run wider than most tires (about +10mm), if you're running a 245, it's like you're running a 255. I would suggest just to run a 245/35-19 and 275/30-19

Stock 19s on a E93,

245/35/ZR19 and 275/35/ZR19?
Wouldnt that be better setup then going down to a 275/30/19 profile for the rears?

And with such a minute adjustment, would I feel any difference in terms of performance or handling?

275/35/19 would be favorable. You would feel slightly more traction/rear end stability without giving up turn in response.

I've heard great things about both the Vredestein's and Hankook's discussed in the thread below. They are sooo much less than PS2's and from what I heard perform just as well, if not better.

Thanks for your response, Mr Harris, 275/35/19 it is

Will the tires stick out a litte on the rear for a slightly wider stance? Will there be any rubbing?

And whats with this load ratings stuff? I have heard if you dont put the proper loading tire, the ride quality, handling suffers tremendously?
