TPM Malfunction
Hi all,
I have an '08 M3 Coupe - recently, the TPM Malfunction just came on and even after attempting to reset - the sensor still remains active. I've tried the following: - check all the tire pressures and ensure it's up to spec - replaced all 4 tires - reset the TPM, it's attempting to reset and even after driving for a little while - the warning icon is still on. Any suggestions before I take it in to the shop? It may be a faulty module. How much would that cost to replace the module with parts/labor? Thanks! |

You do not mention what the tire pressure is currently set at. I am assuming you are going by the door placard/owners manual rather than what is stamped on the tire. If this is not the case, go with the spec from the car and try again.
Assuming pressure is correct, you need electronic diagnostics. Someone who can confirm that all 4 sensors are transmitting correctly. If a sensor is dead, a new sensor is about $60 delivered w/valve stem included, or whatever it costs locally. Tire has to come off to replace the sensor, so ~25 for labor there, figure you could get off for <100 bucks. Replacing the module itself, rather than the wheel sensor, is probably going to be expensive, but I don't have a reliable price for that right off the top of my head.

Thanks for the response!
My tire specs are at 33 in the front and 38 in the rear based off the requirements. I've confirmed that all four tires are at that level. I think I'm good to go! |

if by chance you hit a pothole recently or a bridge expansion point then you probably damaged one of the sensors. Thats what happened to me a couple of weeks ago.
