great videos.
I don't understand you .... of course the M3 is a slower track car than those 2, you didn't know that ??? Now, a new test for those 3 cars : - go to the shop 2 km from here, take your wife and 2 kids, get back with a lot of stuff ... who will win ? You have a car, able to do that, and also which is not ridiculous on the track, and could be tested again super-cars . I'm happy with that ... M3 all the way ! |

M3 is like a verry good GT, and beautifull too.
And OMG, the Nissan is ugly, realy the car suits the word.................... For daily drivability the M3 will be absolutly the best, the other 2 will draw a lot off attention, give me the "undercover" M3 anyday..................... |

I love the M3, but I prey for all the owners that when they drive the car a little agreesive on the streets that the brake work because from the video he only did like 2 laps and the brakes died on him.

Do I understand this right: He drove the M3's lap with DSC on? That's neither beneficial for the time nor for the brakes. OK, they should keep up longer than two laps anyway...

I think I'd start with the fluid, which clearly boiled, then decide on the Brembos

I'm not going to defend the M3, which is the lesser of the vehicle for sure, but I see this video as just another datapoint, not a verdict. My thinking (if flawed fire away!):
1. It was 2C/35F during the test. For sure MPSCs lose a lot this cold, but they probably had a whole lot more left in them than the M3's PS2s 2. At these temps AWD is a bigger advantage than it would be at "normal" track day temps 3. Not a production GT-R 4. 6MT, not M-DCT. Not quite apples-to-apples 5. Driver seemed competent but still managed to boil the M3's brake fluid, seems odd to me. A different approach might have worked better. 6. BMW has never done well in the 0-anyspeed department. They simply suck at the 'strip. I'm OK with that. 7. One attempt at an ET is not enough practice in any manual car. Yes, I know this is big plus for autos, but the 6MT could certainly do better than it did To say that the M3 is the lesser car is OK, but to say it got thrashed is a bit unfair.

Two laps with a car which though not a true track day car but still one that the manufacturer acknowledges will be tracked none the less should have brakes capable of withstanding at least a good 6 laps of reasonable heavy braking. Remember that one of those two laps was an out lap which usually isn't performed at race speed, so basically one hard lap killed the brakes. Shocking isn't the word for it, BMW needs to do a lot better than this. |

like it was said before...just being in the test is a testament to the m3...it's essentially a performance oriented luxury coupe(sedan too)...the fact that a car like that is tested against exotics is enough for me to cream over one...
i mean maybe a csl dsg would be a much better approximation...but for all i care i'd be just as happy with a e90 dsg wiping smug looks of lesser (sub gt2/gt3)porsche owners...on the way to pick up groceries... who are the m3's real competitors? mb c63, lexus is-f...neither of these cars are even mentioned in the same sentence as any exotic or high performance vehicle... |
