I stopped burring oil when I switched to 0w40. Oil Temps stayed slightly lower. FYI I'm supercharged which is harder on the car than NA. Btw Oil doesn't make a car exhaust note

Haven't changed it yet but one indy suggested 10W-60 for summer/fun and 0W-40 for winter. Temperature in winter can get to -20 here though.

I've got Mobil 1 0w-40. For a street car, it works fine. I figure with all of the starts/stops on a DD...a lower viscosity oil would be a little better. Warms up quicker and (theory here) less wear on start up.
I'm not held hostage by my local dealers which seems to like to close at 5pm...unfortunate for those of us who work with no Sat hours. And Mobil 1 is $24 for 5 qts at Walmart and they are open 24/7.

Yeah, proud to say I put Walmart parts in my E90 M3...

If this car were seeing the track then Castrol or Shell would be going in.

Crazy. You probably reseated it when you added the oil, rather than the type of oil causing the leak. Caps leak on many BMWs, with TWS or lighter, the S62 suffers from this too. Oil is just constantly splashed against it and it seeps.

Probably. The ring is designed to move, it can get bound up if too much weight is applied while turning it. I haven't seen the n55 oil cap area, maybe different powder coating or oil isn't splashed like the s65/62 heads. Our bolts can also leak right where the vanos is located fwiw.

Personal I think different engine = different oil cap .
EDIT: After serious research of me (about the f@cking oil cap) it seems while changing oil , so when the oil cap is removed => Never put the oil cap up side down ...can cause oil leak around the oil cap gasket ....Imagine !
And I have serious trouble to believe that .
