2013 M3 Premium Sound Exploded

Did anyone else have problems with the premium sound speakers? I was driving my car in Germany on an ED trip and all of a sudden there was a loud pop and then smoke from all speakers front and back. I never played the music loud.

You probably played the self destruct sequence: Bieber then Gomez then the extended version of MMMBop by Hanson.

Happens from time to time on my 2008. A very loud 'POP' randomly.

There is a service bulletin on the 2008 premium sound due to overheating of the amp. The early versions didn't have a fan. I had occasional loud pops, and the dealer replaced mine with a newer version with a fan.

That's a darned unusual failure mode, but it's caused by the EPS amp failing. That amp puts out a TON of voltage, it has a real internal switching power supply to increase the voltage the speaker sees above 12V, and that same sort of failure can happen with other amps.

I've seen JL amps take out Morel speakers by sending 23V DC to them over time. Seems like a similar fail.

I also hear a random pop sound come from my sound system. WTF is this garbage. I keep thinking its a stone hitting my windshield or car. Sounds exactly like that.

This audio system p's me off. That and the "bmw apps." Makes me want to file class action lawsuit.

If anyone is going to file a class-action lawsuit, it REALLY ought to be about how you can't get your damned car serviced completely (no sw updates, no module replacements due to required SW updates) after replacing the radio, or replacing the MOST amp, or taking out your Sirius sat tuner or failing to replace it after it fails, or failing to replace your HD Tuner after it fails... or failing to replace your BT module after it fails... see where I'm going with this?
