19" or 18" Rims

Hi Everyone,

About to order a E90 M3.
Quick question.
How heavy are the stock 19" rims?
If they're more than 25lbs each, I may stay with the 18's and keep them for snow duty, and pick up a set of HRE P40S rims. Should help with rotating mass.

I don't know about the 220M's but the 359M's are pretty heavy.

I have one of the rear (10") ones in my basement that I can weigh tonight if that helps. I expect someone else will know the weight of the 220M's though.

Good luck, however are you sure there is still an E90 M allotment at your dealer?

I'd be worried about that more than the wheel order at this point.

F30 production starts next month.

Get the 18s if you can afford the wheels you want. I can't see spending 5k on wheels unless they are for the track, and then I'd still get 18s.

I think October is actually the cut over month, and November will be full speed development, but "the end is neigh" as they say.

if you plan on modding, get the 18's and use them for winter or track.

OEM 19s (220M, forged) are actually lighter than OEM 18s.

I was looking for OEM wheel weights as well and found this post:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514886

Looks like the fronts are comparable and the rears have about a 1 lb difference between the 18(24.9lbs) and 19(26.1lbs).

How does the tire weight compare for 18s and 19s? Factor that in as well. Might lose the pound you gained.

FWIW

Simon, the Lime Rock Drivers Club director and coach told me that the Lime Rock M3s (BMW is the official car of Lime Rock) are fastest around the track on 18s with the suspension on the second stiffest setting.

This is coming from a pro driver who drives an M3 on a track virtually every day.

the oem 19s are lighter than the 18s... style 220M 19s are forged but the 18s are not.
