One thing to keep in mind, is that after warranty, if the FI fails you have to replace it or deal with the crap it gives you. Any savings that exist will eventually cost you in the end and then some... |

Comments from Someone Who Has Driven a 1M Coupe
A friend was one of the 12 winners of an early 1M Coupe customer introduction event as documented in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe Step 2 video here: http://www.youtube.com/bmw#p/u/22/lr9Z0v1Reuw
You can read his comments here (he's M3_Adjuster) starting on pg 2: http://www.lscbmwcca.org/forum/Topic10828-3-2.aspx

If you are seeking a DD and just want a fun car while saving bit of money go with 1M. I've driven tuned 135i an they are very fun to drive (I own 2011 M3 ZPC). They're like little go carts. Get an M3 if you have a spare DD and extra cash to burn. I love my M3 but I don't drive it on a daily basis...

I would love to know how at the conclusion that it's indeed more fun than a car you haven't driven.

My friends measly impreza put a way bigger smile on my face during the snowstorm earlier this year than the 6spd f430 this summer. Even the owner of the ferrari admitted you get 95% of the ferrari with his M5.

Last time I checked, none of the x35is cars received a wider track, M suspension and an M diff. Must be one amazing 135is.

Whereas something like a mini cooper S or 130hp miata can be driven pretty much flat out and barely break the 60mph speed limit.

I'm 6'4 with a long torso, and I have to say the 1 series doesn't have much room for a guy my size. If you are smaller drive both and see which you like better.

I'm only 6' and with the driver seat adjusted correctly, the rear seat passenger in the 135 would have to be an amputee. With the 335, I could get in the rear after adjusting the driver seat and be comfortable.
The E30 my daughter drives has more passenger room than a 135.

No it's a 325es, not a 325 exl When I adjust the drivers seat for me in that car I still have room between the rear seat and front seatback which is not the case with the 135 I drove. YMMV.

Note the space in the 3 and the seats touching in the 1? I imagine these measurements were with front seats all the way back.

It's not small if you only need 2 or 3 seats

Go with the M3...The 1M is nothing but a marketing ploy. it only has 35 more hp than a 135, 335, and Z4...and only 15 more than a 335is. If you look at the history of cars that carry the coveted M badge, they all have significantly more power than all the other models...so my evaluation is the 1M isn't a real M...just a low budget M car to fill a gap and fatten BMWs wallet.
