Dunno about Cali but I have a friend that just sends his ticket to some ticket lawyer who goes in his stead to get the ticket dropped and waive any points. No traffic school to attend, no points, and just the lawyer fees. Now if the lawyer can't fight it, you end up paying lawyer fees, ticket fees, but still no traffic school or points.
I haven't had to use this myself (and hopefully never will!) but that's what I've heard works in FL.

You'll be paying around $250. Did you get clocked on East H Street in CHula Vista. I almost got one too the other day.

Harsh?!? I don't think you were harsh at all. There is a reason they bumped the speed limit down and I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of him. When he hits a kid running into the street to catch a ball, he'll wish he paid attention to the lower speed limit.

By the way people... I've seen the CHP testing out their new laser equipment ON THE FREEWAY. This was in Long Beach on the 405 near the Palo Verde exit.
I here this new equipment is undetectable by current equipment as it is instant on and targets a single vehicle easily. |

I think someone posted that they received their new Passport 9500 already. Escort website changed from 'Accepting orders' to 'Now shipping' this past week.
Search '9500'. Passport 9500 (~$450) incorporates GPS, allowing you to mark known false reads. V1 should have something similar within the next year or two. |

You know, this discussion needs to be expanded a bit...
The first rule: follow the money. It's a sad but true fact that most municipalities and some regional and state governments actually include anticipated revenue from traffic fines in their budgeting process. This puts added pressure on law enforcement to cite drivers and collect fines. If speeding (a few miles over the limit, not blatant autobahn behavior) is such a serious problem, suspend the license of the violator. Something like two weeks for ten miles over, two months for 20 miles over, etc. would be more of a deterrent than a few bucks to the government coffers. As far as cops having 'quotas', they'll all tell you that's not so. But, if you're a traffic cop (or traffic enforcement is part of your job), there is an unwritten assumption that you will write tickets. If you were to go couple of weeks without writing any, someone would most certainly notice. :-) And, to the whiney parents who think speeders are out to kill their kids, take another look at the law: You are required, in most juristictions, to provide for the safety and well being of your children. The case could be argued that if your kid wanders off and runs in front of my car, YOU are as much at fault as I. Your failure to care for your children is not my problem. |

Don't be bad mouthing the cop for doing one of his many jobs. Who else do you expect to be out there doing speed enforcement. Calling them hypocrites cause you see them speed....keep in mind they are working and in the execution of their duties. There will be times when they need to get somewhere in a hurry but dont necessarily need to use the lights and sirens. I would expect them to use them when they have to cross an intersection against a red light and have to get everyone to stop so they can proceed. I don't know of any place where the officers "get a commission" on the tickets they give out. Imagine if they did...they'd probably write more if it meant more money in their pockets. But really..you said yourself it was in your neighborhood so you should be aware of the speed limits and where the cops do their speed enforcement. I think most people speed and some of us just get caught once in a while. Just dont make a habit of getting caught. For all the times you've been speeding and didnt get caught compared to the one or two times you get a ticket...just take your lumps and deal with it. If you say you won't speed anymore, then getting the ticket did its job don't you think?
