GPS Acting Crazy

Last couple of days my GPS is 4 miles or more off and providing false direction information. Car is a 2011 E93. This is the first problem with the system.

Will rebooting the system help? If so, can someone remind me on how to do that? Of course, any other information or similar experiences would be appreciated.

I did search for info on the topic.

Thanks!!

Resetting the CIC
The Car Information Computer can be reset by pressing the rotary push button (ON button) for 25 seconds. After 25 seconds, the control display becomes blank as a confirmation that the CIC is being restarted.
My recommendation is to reset the unit while outside (no roof over your car), much better if you will be driving more than 20 minutes after reset. The GPS needs quite some time to load what's called the Almanac -a database of satellites tracking information- from the satellites themselves.

Somehow your current Almanac may be corrupted, so your GPS is running not based on satellite information but based on the compass and the speed sensor from your known last location, thus the accumulated 4 miles off.

If this does not work then its dealer time... they may need to reflash the whole CIC.

Well it's April and the probelm has reoccurred. Will try the sam ecorrective action, just wanted to share with others that may have the same problem. I did a reset on the roll, but with only a 10 min commute it didn't help. Will try again and give it more time.

Although I have never had an issues with the M3, our X5 had a similar issue as you described, eventually it was way off. Turned out to be a faulty GPS reciever. It was replaced and no issues since.

Good luck with the fix.
