M-DCT or not?
Well ive found 2 08's in the colors and everything that i want. One is an 08 jerez black (favorite color) tech, cold, premium, enhanced sound, ipod, 19's, and M-dct. Ive heard both good an bad about the m-dct. It seems interesting and pretty cool. All my cars have been manual so. The car is 150 miles from me so if i drive that far its going to be to get it lol. At the local dealership all they have left is a melbourne red (2nd fav color) 6mt, premium, tech, 19's, extended leather, beige leather, ipod, hd radio, sat radio, 6 speed manual.
They want 65900 for the mdct black one and i got the local dealer down to 63500. I know its a pretty good deal for the m-dct im just seeing those that love manuals how do you like the m-dct. |

Have you driven a DCT yet? It's awesome and I highly highly doubt it will disappoint. But that's up to you to decide. I say go for the DCT there's obvioulsy a reason why DCT cars are selling better thna 6MT.

DCT is the newest technology. But it's no substitute for a true 6mt. If you like shifting the gears, and heel-toe driving I say go for the 6mt.
I originally ordered the DCT, but after test driving it on the road, it felt just like my wife's steptronic automatic. I just wasn't having as much fun as when I drove the 6mt. Everyone can drive a DCT car, but not everyone can drive a MT one. I like that it takes skill and practice to drive a MT well. GET WHAT YOU ENJOY!

I got the DCT because of it's high technology, features, and convenience. and I also knew it was going to be expensive so I bought the extended warranty. I have a 98 M3 with a manual transmission as a daily driver but the DCT spoils you especially on stop and go driving conditions. BTW according to the parts catalog you can't buy a clutch unit separately. You need to buy the whole transmission which comes with it and that alone is $10,000 plus tax and labor. |

Why don't you test drive the MR 6MT M3 at your local dealership first and get a feel for the 6MT. Then drive to the further dealership and test drive the DCT. If you like it, drive home with it. If you don't like it as much, drive back home and buy the MR M3. Either way, you make the trip and end up with a car at the end after making an educated comparison.
Keep in mind that a new software upgrade has just been released for the DCT. The DCT car sitting on the dealer lot probably has not been upgraded yet, so you may not get the optimal experience, but you should get a decent idea of what it's like.

Are you saying a 335 is faster than an M3? |

well i have a jb3 tune, down pipes intake, forge dv's... etc. the car put down 392hp to the wheels and 387tq.... thing is on a 335i you have that instantly after 3k rpms when the boost kicks in. Both are great cars and although the 335i is straight line faster its not an M

I will have to strongly disagree with this statement. Although many buyers of M-DCT will do so simply to have the ease of having a tranny that can work just like (better actually) a traditional automatic, many others buy it for the performance advantages, lightning fast shifts, suitability for the track and just because it is so darn high tech. I know I am not alone as I have always driven, owned and loved MTs and I bought the M-DCT for many of the reasons above.

By the way guys, what do you think is more "nice to have" - DCT or the technology package? In order words if you could only have one or the other, which one would you choose to maximize the driving/performance experience?

Personally, I would say the Tech package, but I'm admittedly biased because I'm getting the stick anyway. You'll hear both sides on this forum, but you're going to have to live with your decision, so I'd take some test drives to figure it out for yourself.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be ambiguos but it's inevitable. You are correct that test drive would help figure out this on an individual basis. |

Technology Package with 6MT hands down winner in my book. The M3 wouldn't be an M w/o the Technology package and the M Drive...JMO, of course

I would think with the software update, it'd be the DCT. Faster shifting, and you can focus more on your lines that worrying about shifting.
