It is of course possible ... anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Mind you some of that V8 has to fit into the trunk and that pisses the BMW mechanic off be aware of that by all means. The fellow that did this ended up having the after cooler and the extra 2 cylinders in the trunk. One drawback is you do loose a few litres of trunk space, here again the draw back is ballance you be last all the time on the track. Why you might ask, well corners you must take them real slow on account of the imbalance you are now faced with. Also you need to get a Solar roof for the additional power supply you need (looks like the carbon fibre one).

Heck, on second thought del the e46 and get a e92 I did

God I love this forum, the things we can learn here it's simply outstanding.

I am unsure how to modify the instrument cluster however as the Duramax has a redline of 3450RPM. I really appreciate any help someone can provide myself and JOSHYb23, thanks in advance.
This can be done through software by changing the variable red line. Such an obvious question ...

A 4.0L V8 should fit in there:

Hmmm,,Hartge did a superchared 5.0L V8 in an e46 so its "do-able" the question is at what cost and does it make sense..I think most can agree that it doesnt..unless cost is no object

S65 is bigger and heavier than LS engines. It weighs more than even Mercedes M156/9 with 6.2 displacement. The only engine from GM in recent years that is bigger and heavier than S65 is LT5 which is a massive piece of thing.

You can't blame people for wondering. It would depend upon the size of the engine bay for the E46, etc.

I wonder how many people thought that it was a joke when someone asked if the V10 from the previous M5 would fit into the current M3?

I didn't mean to suggest that it wasn't possible, just that the logic in the post that I quoted has some holes in it.

+1. There were a few V8 E46s. I can still hear their howl at the Petit Lemans. Awesome sounds.

And you brought back a 3 year old thread to tell us something we already know, why? Get back in the closet.

Coincidentally, bmw just announced that they cleaned up the GTRs to take to Monterey for the concourse.

My question is...Can an e92 be made to sound like a gtr with the right exhaust?
