EAS | Famoso Drag Strip results: Just .004 away from 10-second territory!

Part of being a vendor is extensively testing the parts we offer to the public.

While most manufacturers do provide their own specifications, putting the extra effort in testing gives us an in-depth experience of each manufacturers components so we can validate claims. We then share this info with both manufacturers and public to get a better understanding and back up claims with real world results and experience.

When an invite was extended for a private track day at Famoso, we immediately jumped on the opportunity. The M3 is not the best drag platform, but holds its own pretty well. With California having a relatively dry winter, conditions were optimal to expect some pretty good times.

With some traction control issues, we were eventually able to crack a couple of low 11 second runs, almost dipping into the 10s. Best Time/MPH is as follows:

Best 60ft: 1.848
Best 1/4mi: 11.004
Best MPH: 130.40MPH

You read that right, .004 seconds from entering 10-second territory.

Not too shabby for a street driven vehicle, especially seeing that MPHs we were pulling.

Specs
Vehicle: 2011 BMW M3
Transmission: DCT

Modifications
ESS VT2-625 Supercharger System
Akrapovic Evolution Ti Exhaust
Powerflex Polyurethane Subframe & Differential Bushings
Passenger Seat/Rear Seat backs removed
Hooiser Drag Radials
Line Lock

Fuel
91/109 mix

The ESS VT2-625 supercharger kits are civil on the street and true-form beasts both on the drag strip and track - a real "wolf in sheep's clothing". We'll get results added to the official 60-130 and 1/4 mile thread shortly.

Excellent work guys, the event was a blast, it was great seeing Steve, Craig and Robert at the event. The EAS M3 trapped the same as some potent cars out there. I'll get this up on the 1/4 mile thread.

+1 def a good time.

I was surprised at this trap given the elevation/DAs and what other cars were trapping. Great job EAS on getting the power down! Launching a DCT M3 is no picnic.

If I'm not mistaken, it was three gallons of MS109 in the mix. Does that sound correct?

About 50/50 of 91 & 109, correct.

Agreed, they were able to improve their trap from an early 126/127 to 130, which is impressive, especially considering Eric's E63 did 130 and it pulls on 625+ plus kits at the airstrip events.

Nice work. That's about right for that power level. My 10.65 time isn't attainable unless it's below 40 degrees and negative DA. Conditions really need to be perfect. I run 10.8-11.0 all day long with 1.6 60ft. Search bludvlm3 on YouTube and you will see a dozen launches with those times. IMG was recording all day long..

How again did you do your burnout and your launch? We were debating the best way on Saturday.

your launch is very simple. Use LC and hold on! Launch rpms and tire psi is critical. a really good launch is 1.6-1.7 60ft. Launch rpms are 4500-5500 with good track prep. If I can't stick then lower rpms below 4500. The car needs a 5k launch to run in the 10's because the motor lacks torque. My psi is never above 22psi with DR's. It's usually high teens. Burnout I use linelock and heat them for 5 seconds. Go on YouTube and search bludvlm3. Izzy (IMG) has a ton of videos closeup of me launching and running 10.7-10.8. You will see what the car looks like and how it reacts

Thanks. How were you doing your burnout? Just rolling on in 1st gear?

I think the EAS car had some issued on the burnout where a pic of a "sproket" would show up in the dash. After when that occurred they couldn't use LC. From what I understand their best run of the day was done using the "floorboard" method, not LC. That's probably why they couldn't get in the 10's.

You need a linelock. Don't overdue the burnout, or the Trans gets too hot and that symbol comes up. Using the floorboard method you are guaranteed to fry your clutch. LC slips the clutch where mashing the throttle is a mini launch but its a violent clutch drop. M33 fried his clutch that day at that track with that method. Guys, its simple. If your car can't stick with DR's and 18psi, it's the track prep. Call it a day...

There seems to be a fine line though with the burn out. It's a catch 22.
Too long of a burn out is overheating the trans. Too little is not getting enough grip at the launch.
It was pretty easy with my 335 because I would pop the clutch when in second gear and burn out for a good 5+ seconds to make sure my tires were nice and sticky. I could run high 1.6 60fts most of the time.

The DCT trans was definitely not made for the drags. lol
