Take a Vbox to the track next time and analyze the data.
We did a Vbox run on a ESS M3 down here, but he had a passenger and spare wheels inside the car and trapped 115.3. So with 200 lbs less weight, perhaps his trap would have been identical to yours? But his was a 13.3 et, with a 2.5 60' time. So just goes to show, there is so many variables in a qtr mile run.

Warren that ESS car is a VT535, non intercooled. I do believe next time we hit the track, he wants to come along.

Wow, that is amazing, your car must be making 100 more HP than his!

Are you going to the last TNT at Famoso this Friday? It would be awesome if some more BMWs could come out. Wonder if Mo can do another private after hours rental? Also Drew, what is your take on the tire pressures. Some people are doing great at 36psi, others say take it down to 14psi! Have you done any Vbox testing to see the 60' differences? You and I both need more traction to hit 10's!

Well that explains some of it, just as you have to correct for conditions when comparing dyno's, the same should apply if you want to compare 1/4 mile runs, I would say it's much less accurate comparing the latter, lol. However, when you ran N/A the DA was around -1000', which got you around 2MPH in your trap, simply based on the air, meaning at Sea level you'd trapped around 111. This is one reason stock C6 Z06's trap 129+, as well as other cars, that 458 Italia that trapped 132, the DA was -1500, normall they trap 125-128.

When you ran with the SC, the DA was around 600', which probably cost you a MPH if that, not much more, but had you ran in the same DA as you did N/A you'd trapped near or at 120. Not sure how many passed you did while SC'd, did you ever get a pass with full traction, and clean shifts?

Made 4 passes that night 12.1 - 12.2's @ 118mph

None of which were clean shifts or good traction..

Next time I go I will try the following:

1. 2nd gear burnouts to heat up the tires better
2. Launch at a lower RPM to prevent some wheel spin
3. Shift a little easier.. I have a tendency to jam the gears and for some reason all my other cars were fine.. But the M3 does not like it
4. Drink a few beers to calm down a bit
5. More tire pressure.... This might help with the MPH.. but hurt the ET if the car spins bad..

When i ran the M3 at the track I started out with two identical 12.4@117 runs which made me angry. then i changed the EDC settings to full stiff instead of soft, i dropped the pressure to 23psi. did a longer burnout, 1st gear is fine just put your left foot on the brake. i also launched lower then before 3.5k vs 4.5k and went 11.9@119. i wouldnt do 2nd gear burnout just to avoid glazing or putting too much wear on the clutch...

Thanks for the info... I too had the EDC set to soft thinking the weight would shift from the front to the back of the car giving me addt'l traction..
I will try the hard setting next time... We should try and meet up at Englishtown one time and have some fun..

yes that was my exact intial reasoning. when i ran my E55 i always had suspension in comfort for better squat and weight transfer. on the M3 when i had the EDC in comfort in netted tons of hop vs where i had it on full stiff (2 LEDs on) there was no hop at all.

i prefer Atco, etown gets too packed and i've also been kicked out of there more then once in my E55 after 1 or 2 runs.

that sucks i think Atco has that rule now too but some of us got lucky at our private rental and they didn't care.Jersey loves to mess with people who love cars and put all these stupid rules in place.

Those are NHRA rules not track specific rules. Atco is the same way, when I ran the M3, my friend ran 11.2 in his Evo X street car and got kicked out instantly. Atco used to look away during private rentals and from what you're saying it sounds like they still do.

They had few bad motorcycle accidents last year where the rider was going too fast without a special racers license and there were problems. I heard of other track days getting cancelled there because of cars not having proper equipment this year. No need for a cage was one of the big reasons why all the big street players prefered to do track days even at the extra expense.
