Protection Options??

Hey guys my car has finally come in and is ready for delivery this Saturday. Today I went into the dealership to see the financial adviser b/c she needed some info from me and was blown away by all these things she's trying to sell me. Can you guys give me some input on what's worth buying and which ones to skip.

1. Body Armour (some rust control module/electromagnetic surface) - $544 protection - sounds like a big gimmick to me)
2. Paint Armour (xzilon molecular adhesion) - $394
3. Foundation Armour (rubber spray-on undercoating) - $599
4. Interior Armour $299
5. Gap Protection $420
6. Tire Protection (covers up to $6000) - $1100/1yr - $2058/5yr

These guys are even trying to push life/critical illness/disability insurance on me. I just want my car...

Thanks in advance!

Buy the GAP insurance if you are financing and not putting over 25% down. It's worth it if your car ever gets totalled or stolen. Pass on everything else. Just my opinion.

Skip it all and find someone local that does a good job at paint protection.

Gap protection for sure depending on financing. It might be cheaper through your regular insurance though.

In the past, I'd pass on tire insurance, but it's actually come in quite handy. Might consider it if you don't planning on changing your wheels.

If you are going with BMWFS then consider the gap protection, if you are financing with someone else they might have a cheaper gap, but bottomline is get the gap insurance as you do not want to be left with the depreciated value to pay if something happens

SKIP IT ALL YOU can get Gap through your car insurance company for very little $ added to the policy.

My friend purchased a new M3 5 weeks ago and was 15k upside down. Gap through the dealer was crazy $$$$$. Gap through his insurnce company was a total of $7.82 for 6 months on his auto policy.

Gap (unless your insurance is cheaper)

and the Tire/wheel insurance

HOWEVER you should pay $1100 total for 3 years, not every year

$1k per year is a rip. you'd need a flat a 3 months to pay it off

1100 for 3years or so is great.

I'm in the same situation... passed on the 5 yr $2100+ tire insurance (with a max rim replacement of 2), and the paint protection. But got the platinum interior one though.

GAP is the only real thing to get...

everything else is garbage unless you got money out the ass and then if you did...it just opens up more questions

If you are financing get the GAP. the rest of it is BS, just a way for them to make more money off you.

That's what I paid for 5 years. I used it quite a bit on my previous E60. Enjoy the car!

I'm seriously considering getting GAP Insurance. Do you have preferred vendors or companies that come highly recommended in the US?

Thank you!

get the GAP protection... everything else is useless..

you can get the paint protection and interior protection done at a local detail shop for half the price... tire insurance is also useless unless you are planning to ONLY use oem spec wheels and tires... as soon as they are not OEM, the policy wont cover anything.

^Maybe. I previously had two punctured winter tires replaced using my tire insurance. The Tires were not purchased through BMW service, and were not the BMW spec winter tire or size. Perhaps depends on the dealer/service dept/SA.

I just picked up a new 2011. The only thing I added was the knowledge that I didn't need that crap.

I bought the tire/wheel insurance. I am in the process of cancellation and getting a pro-rated refund. Cost me $1500 for 5 years and its the BMW tire/wheel protection.

I hit a pothole, scraped up my tire and wheel. The wheel doesn't appear to be bent or damaged (no steering wheel shake, etc). BMW SA thinks is repairable, doesn't need to be replaced. The tire/wheel insurance claims denied my claim because they said its cosmetic only, though I can't find anywhere on the exclusions list in the contract that says cosmetic only damages not covered.

If I repair it through BMW, $120, though a 3rd party $50. So I am just going get my $1100 or so back (unfortunately it goes back to BMW FS since I financed the vehicle). The amount of times I have to get a flat, or bust my wheel entirely is so minimal, I'll just insure myself. Tire/wheel is a waste, and I don't feel like bitching at claims to have them honor it. I'd rather have my money back and they have nothing.

well maybe it was for 5 years? I have a 3 year lease so I just said 3 years

Nonetheless though, since I'm going to be running track tires mostly (well, street track..AD08s/RS3s) I cancelled and got my $1100 back

I lost a $25 cancelation fee, but since I had already made a claim on it prior to canceling, I still think I came out on top (a tire for $25 :P)

Just don't make a payment next month

My $1100 went towards my payments, so I just didn't make a payment.

and next time I'll just make a payment minus the remaining credit
