Minus 3k if you choose manual. Can't really compare a 6MT focus with a DCT M2 when discussing pricing. Bringing it back down to 53 to 54k depending on dealer. RS will also be sold OVER MSRP as opposed to the M2.

What about leather seats, sound system, wheels, and LEDs....options a very high percentage add, or are these all standard on the M2.

I believe those options listed are the only options. And a M car without leather or LEDs as standard equipment? I'm sure its standard.

And can't compare a M2 equipped with a DCT compared to a RS with a 6spd because of pricing? Lol. Even with a manual equipped M2, it still way more.

Those people who pay over MSRP are dumb but there is an idiot born every minute. If they want the car, they'll pay over to get it. Just like Porsche does and does very well at marking up their cars while people only ask "When can I pick it up?".

Full leather seats are actually a $995 option on the M3/M4. Otherwise it's cloth/leather combo. Not sure about lights but I think LEDs are only available with the $1,900 lighting package.

I personally wouldn't pay over MSRP for either the M2 or RS but the idea of buying one of these being a smart financial decision but paying anything over MSRP being a "dumb" decision makes me laugh.

No logic in buying either one but if I wanted one bad enough and the going price was some amount over MSRP and it wasn't going to change in the next 6 months I would consider it (depending on how much over).

I figured it would have been the other way around. Leather standard then for the people who want something lighter for the track then an option for cloth seats. But how many M owners, nowadays, actually get cloth seats?

I only assumed with the M2 only having the Executive package, DCT and some other paint colors that leather seats and LED lights would be standard or just not offered.

I've never been a fan of Ford or American cars in general but they're really bringing it with their new lineup...Focus RS, GT350/R, Raptor, Ford GT.
This can only be good for the industry as it will inspire other manufacturers to catch up.
It's a very good time to be a performance car enthusiast.

Yeah I'm not sure many people get them with cloth, but when you look at the base price MSRP, it is definitely excluding leather (when you build on on BMWUSA it automatically adds leather but it can be changed to cloth to drop the price back down). I'm thinking though that the M2 may come standard with leather to keep the number of options low.

I've read if you want one do a deep search for the most out of the way rural dealer and offer the MSRP.

You can probably walk away with one with a little bit of leg work.

You don't have to do that at all, really. If there is a dedicated and reliable forum for this car, then you'll have dealers posting on there showing what they want for the car. They'll be people who will make posts about cars being sold at MSRP or under at whatever dealership.

Just using Ford as a case in point; when the 662 HP GT500 was debutting, there were a number of places selling the car well over MSRP. But due to a specific forum (svtperformance), people were posting where you could get the car for MSRP or below invoice. Dealers were posting and someone even posted a guaranteed method about getting the car with no markup at all.

Of course, not everyone is willing to do the research and will pay way over MSRP on a car that they could have bought the same car below invoice 25 miles down the road in the other direction.

RS Pic

I love sport hatchbacks, especially the design on this RS. However, as far as the price goes...no so much. For that price, you might as well go with a GT350. I took these pics from the auto show I went to in Albuquerque back in Nov. Some of the exterior part were a bit blah, very plain. The RS was locked so I couldn't check out the quality of the interior.

After reading the Jalopnik article I'm a bit put off. Apparently the two cars the were given both had issues after just a few laps and had to be swapped out. And then the Ford Performance manager says the diffs can't overheat, yet the engineer in the pit says the complete opposite. And the comment about the AWD system already being pushed close to it's power limit in stock form. And a big one for me is that they are still open-diff up front and using brake-based torque vectoring, which was also used in the Focus ST and is notorious for absolutely trashing the front brakes after just a few laps on the track.

Seems like it's a great street car, but I'm thinking they missed the mark a bit. RS cars are supposed to be basically track ready monsters, not comfy, fragile, sensible hatchbacks with Drift buttons.

What Motor Trend said about the brakes in their 2013 Best Drivers Car article:

"Randy reported that the brakes were going out after a lap and a half, and by the time he parked the Focus after three laps, the brakes were completely gone. Not just boiled, but ruined. We wonder if Ford‘s brake-based torque-vectoring was the culprit. The ST returned to Los Angeles on a trailer and had to have its rotors, pads, and fluid replaced. We’ve cooked the brakes on everything from an Aventador to a 1M and a BRZ at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and all were able to be driven back to MT HQ. Thus, the Focus’ standing dropped from ninth to eleventh. What good is a driver’s car if it can’t finish a track day?"

If this is all true, that's very disappointing, and would rule the car out of consideration for me.

Strange; it's getting rave reviews here and is about the same price as a base spec M135i.
However it is rather heavy and Ford warranties and service here is very suspect.

I want to test one but I absolutely must have RWD and six (or more) cylinders in any fast car I buy. Unless I could afford a new 911 Turbo S...!
