Update to my comments in post #33. Today on the way to work I passed a car on a two lane road. I was in 7th gear the whole time and I started the pass at the 45-50 mph range. I went around the guy no problem. I think my perception as I stated it in post #33 was skewed because this car is so fast. So in 7th gear it doesn't feel like it's accelerating M3 fast, but in fact it's accelerating perhaps at the speed of a "normal" car.

Awesome!
I ordered the exact same car as yours except I'm going with Silver interior. I also ordered the 18" wheels and think they look great on the grey car. Nice writeup and congrats on the car!

Awesome Pics! Car looks so much better than the E46 M3. All you're missing is an E30

Is BMW reporting different gas mileage for the the DCT vs. 6MT? IN the Audi TT, their DSG system gave better fuel economy over the manual gearbox. The fact you don't lift during upshifts is what saves gas. It's measurable.

Some of us speculate that BMW did not submit the DCT to be tested by the EPA.

great write up and congrats on the new purchase. breakin takes a while, but once the magic 1200 service is due, you will have a lot of fun. I do agree, this engine above 5k is quite nice just like my M5. I have the manual and never had a chance to drive the DCT. How does it feel on D? I've always hated how the SMG's D mode shift lags.

skierman64 and any other new DCT owners,
I am interested to see what of the different modes (auto and manual) you prefer to drive your car in. In auto mode, is it S2 or possibly higher that you have found suit either your driving style or car better and in manual mode, is it S2~3 or higher which is best. This may differ between people but I am curious to see if there is one mode which suits best in each. P.S. This is no me going back to the comments of too many modes, only wanting to see if in general driving does the car feel better with or without this talked about surge. |

I've spent most of my driving so far in the city. Currently I've defaulted to D3. That will probably change as I grow more familiar with the different modes.

I find that I'm driving around in S3. Smooth quick shifts. When I'm performance driving I'll go to S5 for that feel of the shift.
When I demo the transmission to friends, I'm show them S2 and then S5 to demonstrate the difference. It's a very pronounced difference between 2 and 5. I love all the options. I have 458 miles on my car, and I've probably used D mode all of 5 miles, maybe.

Congrats on the car! I had a Space Gray on order, but decided to change my order to Alpine White since the gray is just too similar to my silver-gray 545i...i.e. looking for a change of pace.
BTW...how come you did not spring for the 19" wheels? |

I've had numerous people make unsolicited positive comments on how much they like the 18s with the Space Gray. I can't get over how many folks like the combo. It's starting to grow on me.
