the rumor for the up coming 5 (whenever that is) was that they would keep the same overall size but make the screen bigger by removing some of the border and allowing the screen all the way to the edge on the sides

i think most people expected a brand new design, as i did, due to last years death grip issue. But i guess apple wanted to keep their normal product cycle for their designs and keep them for 2 years, like they did w/ the 3G/3GS

I already got an offer for $350 for mine iPhone 4 so I'm debating the upgrade but for people w/ 3G and 3GS I would think this is a pretty solid upgrade.

You have .2 GHZ faster on the Galaxy 2, which is not even noticeable when operating the devices and an extra 1 inch big ass screen to carry in your pocket. How is that SOO much better?

Since I have a 16 GB 3GS i'll probably upgrade and sell my current phone since i'm eligible. I'll be extremely pissed if the 5 gets announced the day after i get the 4S.

Your spec sheet is missing one thing...the operating system. That's the main reason to buy an iPhone over an Android phone. I'm sorry, but it's great software that works seamlessly with it's hardware that's important. iOS 5 is so much better than android its not even funny.

The iPhone 4 has a higher resolution than any android device, and the the iPhone 4s is an improvement over the iPhone 4 in almost every way so I'm not sure why you'd think it's not a good update. There's no point in changing the design of a product that works well in the first place. Apple is well known for sticking with what works. Look at their desktop/laptop lineup and count how many times they've updated the line without ever changing the outside appearance.

Why am I buying an iPhone 4s?

1. Better performance all around
2. Better battery life
3. Better camera
4. Siri
5. 4G equivalent download speeds

Why do I have no desire to buy an Android phone?

Because Android OS is a pile of crap. Samsung and HTC make great phones and the numbers make for a great spec matrix, but the OS that runs on them sucks. The OS is what I interact with on a daily basis so why would I choose that over iOS?

Clock speeds mean nothing if the OS isn't properly optimized. It's just like megapixels in the cameras. Android phones have more megapixels, but iPhones take much better photos because of the software.

After 15 months, Apple came out with a iPhone 4S?

You do know that Samsung Galaxy S2 came out in May 2011.. We are comparing a phone that came out 5 month ago to a brand new phone that hasn't even released yet. Yet, the iPhone 4S still fails to compete with a 5 month old SG2.. Why don't we compare the iPhone 4S to the Nexus Prime or the Samsung Note?

I have a jailbreaked iPhone for years. One downside to a iPhone is that you can't overclock it. You can easily overclock and any Android phone by a app in the Android app store (have to be rooted). Many people overclocked their SG2 to 1.6GHZ without any problems..

Maybe Apple should just spend more time innovating rather spending the whole year suing Samsung..

iphone specs aren't ground breaking, but almost every new feature in iOS is.

Ability to take pix, notes, videos and have them show up on all your devices is an amazing feature. I'm pretty sure within the next decade we will have that option for all your files.

Imagine working on a photoshop file on your iMac, going to work and its already there, or having it on your laptop when you need to make a quick fix.

As for Siri, I have to use it before judging, usually those systems never recognize what i say lol

The iPhone 4/s is made out of metal and has glass on both sides. The SG2 is probably mostly plastic. And it doesn't take a genius to understand that if you make a phone bigger, it can probably get thinner as well.

How is it a pain? It's seamless. Just need to keep all of your working documents in the dropbox folder. You can move the dropbox folder anywhere you want as well.

Honestly, are we that surprised? Did anyone really think they would skip a 4S and go straight to the 5? We saw this exact product life cycle in the 3G and 3GS. Why change now? This actually has some decent features, but we all know they've been in Android devices for a year. Difference is, most people that use iPhones don't even know/understand other features. Point is, it will be "new" to them.

The thing is, iPhone 4 still was the most popular smartphone even going up against superior hardware. This will be no different. The 4S will sell like hotcakes and it's a great way for Apple to make another high margin phone and get rid of their supply of hardware and shells. We'll look back on this as another genius move in 6-12 months. Then we'll get the iPhone 5 that will once again wow everyone.

The stock got hit to $354 and probably was a good time to pick some AAPL up. It got back to $372 in about 30 minutes.

Screen comparison: I compared my friends SG2 and my iPhone. They are practically the same. You can't even tell any difference. Yet, the SG2 has a 4.5 inch screen vs iPhone 3.5 screen. iPhone also boast about the better resolution..

1. Better performance? 1.0 GHZ 512MB ram.. I guess that is better performance than 1.2GHZ and 1GB ram..

I don't see any problem with the Android OS you are talking about? What is wrong with it?

2. 1650MAH vs iPhone 4 1420 MAH? I don't remember that I can easily access my iPhone's battery? Whereas, you can easily swap battery on Android phones.
3. Better camera? SG2 has 8MP for rear and 2MP for front camera. Whereas, iPhone uses 8MP for rear and VGA on the front. I could care less about cameras since I use my DSLR.
4. Voice control? Google Vlingo. It's been around iPhone, Android, BB, Windows, Nokia for a long time already way before Apple released Siri..
5. HSDPA? Something that Americans can't benefit from?

Apple demonstrated fast new 14.4 Mbps data downloads that technically put the new iPhone 4S in the realm of 4G LTE competitors, but US residents won't benefit much from the increased potential because domestic carriers don't support it.

i just realized the iphone 4s is both cdma and gsm. does that mean it is factory unlocked already and i can put in t-mobile sim and it be working or did they put a lock on just US gsm carriers?

All iPhone are factory locked to whichever carrier you purchase them from. You will need to wait for developers to come up with a method to unlock the phone through jailbreak. Usually takes 1-3 months.

You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S overseas in the future for probably $800.

I've owned 2 android phones. My wife works for Google. I design software for a living so I have high expectations for user experience. Android OS is not well-designed at all. It's ugly, clunky, and the hardware market is segmented so building apps for android is a huge mess.

As for the rest of your post, you can compare the iPhone 4s with Android devices all you want. I don't care if the hardware is as good or better because they all run Android. I was comparing the iPhone 4s with the current 4 that I have now. The 4s is better in almost every way that matters.
