well the purpose of a notary is to have an official recorded witness to verify the signature came from who it's supposed to be from. that's why many notaries verify and record your ID information before you sign in their presence. if two parties are to sign a document, you don't necessarily have to have them present at the same time, but rather another notary can notarize the other party's signature when they sign at their convenience.

for one, i send a lot of wires between my own accounts and to accounts of trusted people/businesses, but i'm leery of wire transfers to untrusted people. why? once the money is gone, there is absolutely no easy recourse if you get fucked over. while it's one of the safest methods of moving any amount of money very quickly, i just don't like not having 'insurance' against a stranger like paypal or CC fraud reversal would offer. but if you're trying to move a significant amount of money, wire transfer is obvious the easiest way to do it. caveat emptor.

i have no issue wiring money. i don't go do it regularly, however.

i have wired money for the purchase of multiple vehicles i own, from mainly private sellers.

Buy a plane ticket, fly out with a cashiers check, do the transaction, get the car to the shipping company then fly home.

Might cost you a day and a few hundred dollars but for the peace of mind it is worth it.

Notary only confirms identity, not honesty.

A notary is charged with properly confirming the identity of the person signing the document and is supposed to, by the rules, witness the signature. In fact a notary can be held liable for forged or immaculate signatures if they did not properly identify the signer.

OP,

If you want to wire money to someone for something (I assume you buying something substantial - a car?) then set up an escrow account.

That way the other party gets the money only when terms are met. If not, you get your money back.

If not, getting a document notarized is not going to do anything to really protect you.

Each signature can be witnessed by a separate Notary at the time each party to the document signs it. So there are two independent Notaries who witness the two separate signature events.

Any Bank will have a Notary to notarize the signature. Most Banks who you have an account with, will provide Notary services free of charge.

This is not correct. I've used Notary services hundreds of times throughout my 30 year career. I've never had to have both parties present in front of the Notary at the time of signing. Most business transactions are made by people who are not local to each other, which is why Notaries are used to witness signatures in the first place.
