As an M3 guy I'm liking the new NA V8. DI and cylinder deactivation for over 30mpg in the next Vette. Because these engines aren't stressed, they are bullet proof and have much potential for the aftermarket.

I love my V8 M3's but there is no denying that the Chevy V8 is one of (if not the) best engines of all time. It is tried and true and has stood the test of time and almost more importantly the test of what aftermarket tuners put it through lol

Exactly, and the only thing critics can come up with is "it's not DOHC therefore it's archaic" which is flawed reasoning in the sense that the flat torque curve, light weight, very reliable, and relatively fuel efficient design is unmatched. DOHC has been around since before WW2, but does make sense for engines that are restricted by displacement laws/regulations.

direct injection is lame..... Boo to chevy. Put the injectors back in the manifold, just remember intake valves on N54

What are the disadvantages to DI? Supposedly they're more sensitive to carbon buildup...

Fuel efficiency. You can get a cleaner burn.

It is also more precise and can be finer tuned, allowing higher compression and making more power.

Rougher idle, hard on the fuel system. Ironically you can clean carbon from the valves by driving at WOT. Toyota made a workaround by using both direct and port injection on some of their engines. It has proven to be effective in the IS350 at least.
